Re: [MBZ] OT: anyone using an under-counter water filter?
Mine looks like the Watts Premier 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis System. still works great after about 10 years. I like it because I can pick up all the filters on line for cheap. I originally looked at the ones that Lowe's and Home Despot sell but those all required filters, because of specialize cast in place fitting, that were only available from the manufacturers and thus were much more expensive. L and HD still seem to specialize in those proprietary type of systems. After all they make more money off the sale of those special fit filters. I change the filter every year and a half to 2 years when the water flow slows down enough to be annoying. It was expensive but the filter container and mount is stainless as is the spout on the sink, I don't think it'll never need replacing. I use discount CB6 filters I find online, they all seem to be about the same. -Curt On Sunday, May 29, 2022, 04:30:03 PM EDT, Allan Streib via Mercedes wrote: I've used a pitcher-type filter for a few years for drinking water and making coffee, etc. but thinking of installing an under-counter filter along the lines of this: https://www.lowes.com/pd/A-O-Smith-Clean-Water-Filter-Dual-Stage-Carbon-Block-Under-Sink-Water-Filtration-System/1000562057 This would eliminate the pitchers sitting on the counter and seems more practical. A whole-house filter seems unnecessary, as nearly all the water we use for drinking and cooking comes from the kitchen sink. Anyone using one you are happy with? Single stage? Double? We used to use this https://www.lowes.com/pd/A-O-Smith-AO-MF-B-Single-Stage-GAC-Under-Sink-Water-Filtration-System/1000576419 under the kitchen sink for both cold and hot water (stainless steel canister for the hot) when we were drinking city water. It was great, you can choose what you want to filter for - particles, chlorine, etc. IIRC, we changed the filters once a year. We now have two 20 inch tall fitlers with graduated particle filters - down to 1 micron in the well house - so all of our water is filtered. Taste wasn't an issue here - the water is great. I just use the filter in the fridge for drinking water and for cooking. Water for pasta cooking comes out of the tap. The tap water in Vancouver, WA is pretty good, but the filtered water tastes better. When I cook pasta, the last 1/3 of the cooking time is in the sauce, infusing the pasta with the sauce flavor. Re: [MBZ] OT: anyone using an under-counter water filter?
We’ve had reverse osmosis systems in our homes for years. They provide water to our fridge for ice and dispensed water as well as a tap at the sink for cooking or drinking. This is a high end one as far as features, but it’s what we currently have in the Florida house: https://smile.amazon.com/iSpring-RCC1UP-AK-Performance-Filtration-Remineralization/dp/B006X3YJKK?ref_=ast_sto_dp I only have to change filters every 6 months or so, and the membrane once a year, if that. -D On May 29, 2022, at 4:28 PM, Allan Streib via Mercedes mailto:mercedes@okiebenz.com>> wrote: I've used a pitcher-type filter for a few years for drinking water and making coffee, etc. but thinking of installing an under-counter filter along the lines of this: https://www.lowes.com/pd/A-O-Smith-Clean-Water-Filter-Dual-Stage-Carbon-Block-Under-Sink-Water-Filtration-System/1000562057 This would eliminate the pitchers sitting on the counter and seems more practical.
