Re: [MBZ] OT Frito Lay Cummins 4BT Box Van
Rotary/distributor pumps are lubricated exclusively via the fuel flowing through them, and thus are vulnerable to the vagaries of fuel quality (lubricity) and volume fluctuations at high RPMs. In short, they are less reliable than inline pumps which are lubricated by engine oil. Inline pumps are robust and rarely fail on MBs or other applications. Do you know what size plunger they use on the Bosch VE (distributor) pumps found in some 4BTs? Re: [MBZ] OT Frito Lay Cummins 4BT Box Van
I think I am going to just end up putting a MBZ engine in my next M37Much cheaper to find than the Cummins and alot more quiet. Probably be just for ramming around and parade duty anyway since I bought a bigger truck. Mike I have been looking for one of those vans for a donor for the engine swap in my M37 but have yet to find a great deal on one. You and everybody else. [MBZ] OT Frito Lay Cummins 4BT Box Van
It appears that the dragon boat club is ready to get a mobile transport unit (MTU) to haul gear and boats to the local races. Meanwhile, I happened to spot 2 of these Frito Lay trucks for sale on CL for around 4K, both with fresh 4BT engines. They seem low tech and reliable with the mechanical injection and the old Turbo 400 tranny (not electronically controlled). Hopefully, one of the two trucks will work for them. MPG probably nothing to get excited about, IIRC those things are doing way over 2000 rpm at freeway speeds, might not even be able to go over 70 because of the governor. See if you can get one with an inline pump instead of rotary. Probably can't get much over 150hp out of it unless it's intercooled. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

See if you can get one with an inline pump instead of rotary. Would it be easy to distinguish between the two by the orientation of the injector lines in a circle rather than in-line like those on my 300SD? Re: [MBZ] OT Frito Lay Cummins 4BT Box Van
Yup. The rotary pump (Roosamaster, etc.) looks like a distributor, only with pipes in place of wires. An inline pump is just that, and what you're accustomed to in your MB diesel(s). Re: [MBZ] OT Frito Lay Cummins 4BT Box Van
They are not fast by any means but they will pull a huge load. The TH400 is a good tranny but it is still the weak point in that vehicle. The 4bt has alot of torque and gets the automatics pretty hot. Put a big cooler on it and run syn fluid.
