There was a guy in my area that had about 10 of them sitting on a lot for sale.
Last time I was by there he was down to 3 or 4.

In my late teens I had a buddy whose dad was in some sort of vehicle
business, in which this truck was to play a role. One night we borrowed it
for a joyride. I recall him coasting it out of the driveway so we wouldn't
wake anyone.

Being a city kid at the time, I had zero driving experience on any sort of
vehicle, but that was fun.

A fellow I knew way back when had the opportunity to drive something
like that. He said they had attached a big plywood circle to the
steering wheel so that you couldn't put your fingers around the outer
edge. Apparently, if you hit a rut it would take the steering wheel away
from you and too many people had broken their thumbs when the steering
wheel spokes caught them by surprise.

I wonder what you have to do (if anything) to switch between Diesel and

According to wikipedia, "Gasoline may be used only in an emergency
because it does not properly lubricate the injector pump. While using
gasoline, common practice calls for the addition of at least 1
U.S. quart of clean motor oil per 15 U.S. gallons of gasoline"

Anyone here ever drive a deuce and half any distance?
It's like herding wild goats in traffic , handles like you are pushing 6
concrete blocks with a piece of rope.. and you need a back brace and ear
plugs for a week after you get out..
I can't see why the attraction to ever own one.

Sounds like riding/driving a “real” Hummer. I see the ones that were designed
for consumer use and laugh. They’re so far removed from the real thing it’s
laughable.

A good way to get a couple of herniated discs - riding in the back of a (real)
Hummer off road.

Probably a decade or two ago I met a Hummer dealer at a social event in
western Pennsylvania. I think his customer base was the strip mining
industry. He was amazed that he was starting to get a few suburbanite
customers who wanted them for street use. He described the cost to buy,
operate and maintain the Hummer of those days as astronomical for highway
use. The vehicles were not particularly comfortable or convenient for
highway voyages. And the size and capabilities of his Hummers were not
appropriate for on-road use.

But, Ahnold drives one in Beverly Hills, so I gotta keep up

Only H1 owner I knew was an ER doc in DA UP.
I don't know if it was military or consumer model.
Had a Suburban 4x4 for everyday driving, H1 was only for when the Doc
must get through, and the 4x4 Chevy couldn't hack it.
