...not enough and your gonna die

Sweet - from the album Level Headed (also wrote/performed Ballroom Blitz
and Fox on the Run)

Time on my side
I got it all
I've heard that pride
Always comes before a fall
There's a rumour goin' round the town
That you don't want me around
I can't shake off my city blues
Everyway I turn I lose

Chorus
Love is like oxygen
You get too much you get too high
Not enough and you're gonna die
Love gets you high

Time is no healer
When you're not there
Lonely fever
Sad words in the air
Some things are better left unsaid
I'm gonna spend my days in bed
I'll walk the streets at night
To be hidden by the city lights city lights

Too much O2, and you get too high? Really? I've breathed 100% O2 many

of; well, the airplane was at a usual 35k to 37k; cabin altitude about 8k,
but never too high. ;)))

I think Kevin Kraly was given too much O2 and then he was blind.

Re: [MBZ] Oxygen

2011-09-04 Thread Peter Frederick
Pure oxygen at one atmosphere is indeed a bad thing, especially long
term. Lots of blindness in premie babies from giving them pure
oxygen back in the 50's before it was known to cause trouble.

Pure oxygen can cause oxygen psychosis -- not madness per se as
much as distorted thinking. Doesn't happen at low pressures, though,
so pure oxygen for a couple hours at 8k ft. altitude won't cause any
trouble.

At elevated pressures the problem becomes acute, with rapid onset,
which is why deep diving uses a helium/oxygen mixture. Makes voices
weird, but the helium does not dissolve in the bloodstream like
nitrogen does and won't fizz when the pressure goes down. It's
used to lower the oxygen concentration.

Which was my point when I posted the question. 3 to 4 hours breathing
oxygen in an unpressurized airplane flying in the high teens is no problem.

Yes, that's what happened. It was bumped up to near 70%, and 40% is enough
to cause blindness, IIRC

Too high a concentration of oxygen when diving and you black out. I don't do
deep dives with multiple stage bottles of various mixtures but most that do
know people that died from breathing the wrong mix at the wrong depth.

Nitrogen is what makes you loopy at depth. They call it nitrogen narcosis. Was
only narked once. Felt warm and fuzzy all over. Not a care in the world. I knew
enough to call the dive and take a day off.

They're just a heating element, I'm sure they're symmetrical.
