Re: [MBZ] Parts cleaner
Have a look on Youtube as well for videos on upgrading your HF parts washer. Mostly a matter of moving the pump into a 5 gallon pail under the tank and putting a filter inline to clean the solvent. Good point. I’ll have to scrounge around for some kind of metal box or build one with my new welding skills! --FT Sent from iFōn > On Nov 14, 2022, at 2:17 PM, Allan Streib via Mercedes > wrote: > > If you make one out of plastic I'd be cautious about using any flammable > solvent. Re: [MBZ] Parts cleaner
I have not built one but I agree there's nothing to them but a box and a pump. I bought a cheap HF one years ago. Used it a few times, then it ended up sitting for a long time. Don't even know if it still works. But it worked fine at the time and I'd guess it's as cheap as anything you'd make yourself from comparable parts. I used a strong solution of simple green as the cleaner, IIRC. Didn't want it to be anything flammable. If you make one out of plastic I'd be cautious about using any flammable solvent. Plastic will melt quickly in a fire and then you've got a big problem on your hands. I have for years had a similar cleaner. I use Diesel and change it about once a year or whenever it gets too dirty. Re: [MBZ] Parts cleaner
I've been thinking of making one using an old stainless darkroom sink when I get around to rebuilding an aircraft engine. A 5 gallon can of solvent (mineral spirits, paint thinner, etc.) and pump and a filter of some kind and some hose. I was buying parts cleaner solvent in a 5 gallon can from Tractor Supply, but I can't find it on their website now. I use it with a siphon sprayer and air hose to wash down the Cessna engine and belly each year.
