Re: [MBZ] Plastic Bumper Repair
The plastic bumper on my wife's Infiniti was recently repaired by a body shop. I think their criteria was that it could have no breaks, rips, tears and still be repaired. Other driver's insurance paid for it. Insurance standard was that the repair had to be as strong as the original bumper. Our bumper had scratches and dents, so they filled and sanded, then painted it. Personally I would get a used bumper and have it painted. What I am saying is I have never seen it work very well, so you just replace the bumper. On 8/8/2014 3:54 PM, Dan Penoff wrote: And then how do you plastic weld it or use 3M chemicals on it? Fair enough. I thought you were being a smart alek. Point well taken. With that in mind, I hear a lot of bd things about aftermarket bumper covers. Would you recommend getting a used one from a pick and pull and just repainting it to match the car? Dan On Aug 8, 2014, at 4:57 PM, Kaleb C. How damaged is yours? There is a material like bondo that is made just to repair such things. Might want to look into that. Once the prep is done, it works like bondo for sanding and repaint. Re: [MBZ] Plastic Bumper Repair
It may work but I do not think it would be worth the expense if you end up having to replace it anyway. I would try to find a used one that matches, in my case I have several laying around. Or, maybe take it to someone who does that sort of work. I suspect that it is a bit of an art and that an experienced plastic welder might do a whole lot better than an amateur.
