When I first got the used Mercedes bug, I picked up Frank Barrett's Mercedes Buyer's Guide which has some good used info, although his opinions are pretty idiosyncratic. I don't know if he has changed his tune in later editions of the book, but the version I have (just barely new enough to cover the 140 chassis) gives short shrift to diesels, and especially warns against the trap-oxidizer-equipped '86s and '87s. Re: [MBZ] Reference Table for MB's
There are buyers guides out there for Benzes but they are scattered all over the place. A good starting point is this site http://www.carsurvey.org/manufacturer_Mercedes-Benz.html , although some of the reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. But it gives a pretty good idea. For instance have a look at what people are saying about the A class, the general consensus is nice idea but badly executed. Also it is generally accepted that the 124 is the best MB ever, now if they had the multi link rear suspension in the 126.. Talking about 124's, I am thinking of trading the 123 against a 89 300TE. As usual the dealer wants a bit too much money and the car has more K's than I like but the 300TE is pretty rare compared to the sedans and as such they attract a premium. However the one I am looking at has all the service history and is well optioned, sunroof, ABS, 7 seats, pwr windows, cruise but no airbags or eleccy seats but who needs that. *http://tinyurl.com/3dptyn* Are there any real problems with this model? My main concern is that it is fitted with a tow bar, which might have been used once or twice or might have been used all the time to pull a horse float. Harry Watkins wrote: I think its a good idea. I haven't had a chance yet to give it a good test drive but was able to shift between the gears while stationary. It seemed normal.
