He was called the "Great Stone Face" by his critics. He never performed anything on his own; it was all about hyping the guest performers. He was a master showman when TV was a wondrous "new thing". IMO the price is more dependent on the condition and rarity of the car rather than its connection to Ed Sullivan. However, if there are any rich old geezers bidding who loved early TV, it might make the reserve, but otherwise I'll say less than 50K. I say $75k, reserve not met, but this happened once upon a time: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-mercedes-benz-280se-3-5-coupe/ Comments say: 105btr No rear compensator and no Topo Gigio on the dash. Re: [MBZ] Remember Ed Sullivan? 280SE 3/5 on BAT
They DO know! There is chat about how the original hydropneumatic compensator was replaced with a much cheaper spring kit. BAD IDEA. I replaced my 3.5 coupe spring kit with a NOS compensator (paid $400 IIRC) and it rode way better. On Thu, Dec 27, 2018 at 10:59 AM Andrew Strasfogel wrote: > Perhaps - but who's to know? This car has been on the market at over $90k for the last year or so with no takers. First, the “restoration” was totally insane if they truly invested that kind of money into it. Second, many of the people who would care about the provenance are dead or no longer driving. And I have it on background that the “restoration” was poorly done, that is, there are a lot of things that are not correct on the car. -D > On Dec 27, 2018, at 10:14 AM, Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes > wrote: > > Famous TV host who introduced the Beatles and Elvis to America. Famous TV host who introduced the Beatles and Elvis to America. Well, he owned this 3.5 coupe from 1971- 1978. Recent restoration cost $105k. I wonder what the reserve price is... Too bad it's such a boring color combination. Tunis beige usually is paired with cognac leather interior, which adds some pizzaz. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-mercedes-benz-280se-coupe-3-5-2/?utm_source=dailymail_medium=email_campaign=2018-12-27 ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
