Re: [MBZ] Removing rear flange 722.4/comment
The 722.4 uses a 30mm 12 point nut, used a 3/4 drive socket with an adapter to enable me to torque it 120nm. Unfortunately while attempting to attach the speedo cable I managed to pull out the drive shaft so had to pull the back of the box off >:o Hendrik [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > I had suggested that Kaleb might need a special socket to remove the output > flange retaining nut. I made one of these with a 4" grinder from an impact socket to get the nut off to change the Diff seal on my 81 240D. It is available for loan/rent I guess. It will be a long time before I ever need one again. At 12:39 AM 4/21/2008, you wrote: >I had suggested that Kaleb might need a special socket to remove the >output flange retaining nut. I had suggested that Kaleb might need a special socket to remove the output flange retaining nut. To replace the rear seal on my 79 300SD, I needed a 4 prong socket.? I made one fron a standard depth, 1/2" drive,?Craftsman 12 point socket, size 1 1/8 inch. By sawing away opposite pairs of flats, I ended up with 4 prongs,?about 1/4" wide, and?about 1/4" tall.? Now a days, you can probably borrow such a tool from Autozone, et al. Is this basically what you are looking at? Of course, you can't see the nut until you remove the driveshaft. What was the outcome?
