Re: [MBZ] Speaking of tires
In my area, Radial Tire is the cat's pajamas. They stock a huge variety of brands and their prices match those online. Best of all, they play classical music in the waiting room. I wish I had 10 cars that needed tires. What the shop I went to did was put the wheel on their balancer, spin it and hold a piece of marking chalk at the tread... There’s a small repair shop here on the Island I’ll take it to after I do a front/back swap, they do tires,, owner is nice and seems to know his stuff. Re: [MBZ] Speaking of tires
Take it to a decent tire shop and have them look it over. If you have tread separation and you describe classic symptoms of exactly that, it is a very dangerous thing that can and will cause loss of control and a serious wreck. Do not mess around with it.. If the tread comes off the tire it will also beat the living hell out of the fender before you get to a stop, even if it doesn't wreck you. I recently lost a front tire on the Ford King Cab F350, 9,000 lb truck empty, due to tread separation, same symptoms you describe. The day before, I had it on the freeway running 75 and it felt "not right"... so I went to the far right lane and slowed down at 50 the not right feel went away... I kept the speed down on the return trip [about 60 miles] and the next day used the truck again.. At that time, I hit a bump and the front started an oscillation that was truly frightening. I hit the brakes and pulled the speed down to 20 before the front stopped driving itself. I got the message milked it to the closest tire shop and at that point, I could see a tread bubble about 2 ft long... [Big O tires 12,000 miles since new, a dual truck, so 6 tires cost $2,200 when new] Put a set of Michelin replacement tires on at the handy shop, and love them. Big O refused to warranty their tire set that failed... no refund.. I ate it.. ouch. They are forever on my "never do business with them again." I found an article that had the name of the company called Turbo Tires or some such that sells these lizetti tires. A link to some business website had their phone number so I rang up the company and talked to a nice guy there. He said they had not imported these tires for 7 years and there weren’t many out there. Weird as these tires looked pretty new. I need to check the date codes on the tires. They now sell some tires made in Thailand called lexani. Cheep but he said they were good. Whatever. Walmart seems to be their main outlet. That’s probably where these tires came from. [MBZ] Speaking of tires
The LF tire on the ML500 started acting weird at 25mph+\- , kinda bouncing around, but then it smoothes out at higher speeds. At first I thought something in the steering or suspension was loose causing this. I jacked it up the other day and there was no play in the steering, all the suspension bits looked tight and fine. today I was driving with the window down and it seems like a flapping sound as the tire rotates at that speed. Got me thinking maybe a belt is separating? I’ve never had that happen so not sure of the symptoms. F Rt I’m what I can tell it looks ok. I was thinking to swap it front to back and see if the behavior follows the tire. Or take it off and take it to a tire shop to see if they can figure it out, maybe it shed a weight or something. The tires are “Lizetti” and were on the vehicle when I “acquired” it and looked to be nearly new. Not a lot of miles in them. It’s weird I have done a search for the tire in the size 255/65R17 and none appear to be available anywhere though a few other sizes are sold by different vendors. They seem to have ok reviews for a cheaper tire but I had never heard of them. --FT Sent from iFōn ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
