Re: [MBZ] Starter up?
The power and all the rest was connected, I think. My car's radio harness is pretty modified to connect to the DIN connections on the Continental, so the antenna connection won't plug into the Becker anymore. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '87 300TD '95 E300 On July 12, 2016 8:13:26 PM EDT, WILTON via Mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: >I vaguely remember that the radio was sending signal to retract antenna >that >drained the battery. Re: [MBZ] Starter up?
I vaguely remember that the radio was sending signal to retract antenna that drained the battery. I can't remember for certain now. Was power connected to the radio? I think I may have disconnected it. Actually, it was 89.7 (a classical music station) that I had it set on and never moved it - never listened to anything else. Max. A replacement seems like the best idea. Swapping the Continental for the Becker is a very good indication that it has failed. My olde Becker is still truckin'. Fred Moir. Lynn MA. [MBZ] Starter up?
1985 300TD 140-ish k mi. Well she runs! Took out the starter earlier this week, took a couple of days off, fixed the starter last night and installed between rain showers today. Installed battery, checked oil water etc, put oil in the filter housing and turned the key, half a turn and running smooth! Four years since last start. I am delighted, even start-led. (that one's for Joel.) The problem with the starter was weird. The solenoid was stuck with some kind of congealed goo. cleaned and polished everything and checked again. The solenoid armature was seemingly scored, until polished with some fine crocus paper, so I polished inside the coil, brass or brass-ish lined, and the fit was perfect. Reassembled and tested good. I am now officially knackered and off to supper and the british who-dunnit on PBS. Can I mention them? I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the myriad tips and tricks offered on this list. The various voices ran through my mind as The Job progressed and I am sure that had there not been all of that freely given advice I'd be missing a lot more skin. Thank you! Fred Moir. Lynn MA.
