Yes, if he let them know that he'd run the diagnostics himself, they wouldn't 
have tried to rip him off (this time) and he wouldn't have learned that they 
tried to rip people off. Myself, I think it was a lesson worth learning.

If you can afford it, I don't see why a new Mercedes diesel should not
be considered  enjoyed. The cars now going on 20-30 years are certainly
not issue or trouble free  with far more expensive bits that are
needing to be replaced then a new car off the lot would have! :-)

Well I told the service writer the pump was new, I did not mention that I had 
the same test equipment they had and ran the same test beforehand, I mentioned 
it after they tried to get me to replace the compressor
