Interesting story. Did you get the transmission working?

'The' transmission? No. 'A' transmission? Yes. I'm driving
up and down the road near the house shaking it out. The car's
now sporting a stick shift and not a slushbox. Ought to be
ready for prime time in a few days.

You mean like that "1988 380D" mercedes I went to see once? Ended up
buying that 190D.

Don't remember that particular deal. How did that happen?

Saw an ad for an auction at lowball place, yard sweepings
basically, but they listed that with a photograph. I was
quite curious to see what it actually was. I was never
sure, I got sidetracked by this 190D, and it turned out
that there were three MB's there that day. I only ever
saw the one I bought. Long dull story's at

Hmmm. Wonder if these are bait and switch ads just to get people into
the
dealership? Judging by the sheer quantity of advertising, dealers
must be

desperate to sell cars down here.

Neither sold in USA with a diesel. (unless the Ford is really F250 or

Since these sorts of publications are
carefully proofread, I doubt it's a typo.

I don't, necessarily. Seen plenty of errors in ad. copy myself over

There was never any diesel RAV4 sold in North America. There are plenty
of Toyota diesels sold in South America but I'm not sure about the RAV4
as it's only a city slicker SUVnthing that would hold up on the SA
roads..

For that they have the Landcruiser diesels and the Kijang diesel. Not
tomention the Hilux and Hilux Surf models.

Toyota makes a decent diesel or the ROTW.they "reverse engineered"
MB diesels to get theirsif you take a look under the hood of a
Landcruiser diesel you'll see a nice copy of a OM615/616/617spooky!

This was a two page four color insert to the St. Petersburg, Florida Times
newspaper. There were two diesels pictured in boxes with the word "diesel"
in big artwork letters in the bottom of each picture: The 2002 Toyota Rav 4
and a 2002 Ford F-150 Supercab XLT. Since these sorts of publications are
carefully proofread, I doubt it's a typo. It may be greymarket. I wonder
if they're sold in Canada? If anyone is interested, the price is $13,999
and the Tel number is 727-233-8377.

what do you mean listed as a diesel? listed where? Its probably a
typo, or its a grey market car. They did have a diesel in the UK but
not over here.

Would be interesting to know what kind of fuel mileage this diesel
version

gets, who makes the engine, and if new versions are available.

Toyota sold an electric SUV in the USA at one time, I believe it was based on
the
RAV4. Never heard of a diesel Toyota SUV.
