Re: [MBZ] Trailer adapters
This is true, especially for later cars with adaptive (air) suspension. I’m not sure how much it comes into play with a “standard” vehicle like my ML550. I believe it may play into braking, but I’ve got conventional suspension, so it makes no difference there. I know it doesn’t affect my rear camera, it’s not that smart. -D > On Aug 15, 2022, at 8:55 AM, Robert Massmann via Mercedes > wrote: > > One of the things you get with the Mercedes trailer package is modification > of suspension and stability systems software to help handle the heavier > trailer load. Re: [MBZ] Trailer adapters
One of the things you get with the Mercedes trailer package is modification of suspension and stability systems software to help handle the heavier trailer load. It also modifies the rear car detection since you have added a trailer. All of this is automatic when the car detects the trail addition. I do not tow a heavy trailer currently but may in the future. There is also a change to the rear camera view, when you select trailer mode to help align trailer and hitch for hookup. Re: [MBZ] Trailer adapters
When I put the tow hitch on my Volvo, I bought a separate light controller for the trailer lights. It plugs into the car's factory wiring harness for the taillights, so no cutting or splicing wires, and has an independent power connection. It doesn't appreciably change the load on the car's lighting, so the "bulb-out" nannies are happy, and it handles LED or incandescent trailers fine as it's just supplying 12v signals. Mine has a 4-pin flat connector for the trailer. On Sun, Aug 14, 2022, at 08:42, dan penoff.com via Mercedes wrote: > Rick, > > That’s a straight adapter from 7 pin to 4/5 pin - I’ve got one. Re: [MBZ] Trailer adapters
> put the necessary load on the circuits to “fool” the car into working with > the LEDs. All you need are power resistors of near-bulb-total-load rating to burn the difference as heat, and sufficient heat-sinking to not cause failure. Anybody can make one of these if they tried. But power resistors are large, in metal finned cases. If they were small, they'd get hot. Very hot. Like, glowing white hot. In which case you'd have to put them in an evacuated envelope that can take the temperature. Like glass. And make them out of something that can survive that temperature, like tungsten. In which case you've re-invented the incandescent light bulb. Physics. Re: [MBZ] Trailer adapters
Rick, That’s a straight adapter from 7 pin to 4/5 pin - I’ve got one. It does nothing to allow the car to work with LED trailer lights, that’s the issue. The “bulb out” feature of the car won’t play nice with LED trailer lights, so there’s got to be an adapter to put the necessary load on the circuits to “fool” the car into working with the LEDs. -D > On Aug 13, 2022, at 10:50 PM, RICK HAWKINS via Mercedes > wrote: > > Folks > > Here’s an adapter I don’t think they are rare > > https://smile.amazon.com/Super-repairman-Trailer-Adapters-Connector/dp/B08L3BTP9N/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1N9GKDD3K81ZY&keywords=4+wire+to+7+wire+trailer+adapter&qid=1660445222&sprefix=4+wire+to+%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFFQTNEUldYTlJTVFMmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAyNzcyMDkxWDdCRkYyVVBHSDdKJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAxODQ3MjcxWVFWRDQ1QklYSkFMJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
