Re: [MBZ] Trailer reno
You remind me, the snowmobile club has a bridge that needs to be re-decked. The lumber came for it on Saturday: https://photos.app.goo.gl/eSu9FV537EcatnBf6 55x 6"x8"x12' they weigh 140# each. They were delivered in a dump trailer, we had to transfer them to a flatbed that the club owns. Most of it was hand work. Sunday I could barely flex my fingers... -Curt On Sunday, October 31, 2021, 04:43:14 PM EDT, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes wrote: I hauled my daughters 95E320 back yesterday and when we were loading it the trailer deck gave way. I’ve had the trailer for 10-11yr I guess, and it was used probably a couple more years old, so it has served well. It is starting to rust so I figure while I have the deck off I’ll paint it. I’m thinking to hit the rusty spots with POR as going at it with wire wheel would be a huge effort on all that channel iron and such. I might hit a few spots with the wheel that are easy to reach. Then some rust oleum on that. I was thinking to put deck stain on the PT wood, mix in a little sand for better traction. Thanks for that clarification, Jim. Yes, white oak, not red. -D > On Oct 31, 2021, at 7:12 PM, Jim Cathey via Mercedes > wrote: > >> Yes I was thinking about oak as it does hold up well. > > _White_ oak, not red. > > -- Jim > > > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Yes I was thinking about oak as it does hold up well. If I had some trees to mill I would get some lumber cut but it is wicked expensive otherwise --FT Sent from iFōn > On Oct 31, 2021, at 7:03 PM, dan penoff.com via Mercedes > wrote: > > Do what I did for a 2 ton Ford flatbed truck we had at a former business: > > Get some 5/4 or thicker oak and let is be newly cut (wet) or soak it in > water. Do what I did for a 2 ton Ford flatbed truck we had at a former business: Get some 5/4 or thicker oak and let is be newly cut (wet) or soak it in water. Cut it to fit the bed and bolt it down, then let it dry. Once it’s dried (and shrunk a bit) soak it with paint or a good water sealer, like Wesley’s. I did that to the truck bed on the aforementioned truck in 1982. In 2008 it was still in service and in great shape. -D > On Oct 31, 2021, at 5:51 PM, Jim Cathey via Mercedes > wrote: > > PT wood is weaker than untreated. PT wood is weaker than untreated. Untreated wood, properly cared for, could perhaps last longer. Frequent painting, a trailer should air-dry easily.
