sudden it will only upshift based on speed and not throttle position as

well. Furthur it won't go into top gear no matter how high the engine

 revs...Kickdown function still works.

My SD had the same symptoms. Trans flush did NOT cure the problem,
but a fluid and filter change did. Try that.

I'm a fan of the flush and in my mind a Trans flush includes fluid and
filter. Sadly it seems that now they are no longer including the filter
with the flushes for supposedly some sort of extra risks involved with
dropping the pan.

Oh, Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

Just get under there an take the darn pan off!!! It is far cheaper to
snag some ATF and a filter from Rusty, drink a beer and drain the old
gunk out. Do the TC and wipe it up and then put a fresh filter in,
bolt it back up, and fill the thing.

Done it a few times on the e300d and it takes like a half hour

Re: [MBZ] Transmission not shifting properly

2006-09-29 Thread OK Don

I was under the SDL last weekend, and looked to see where the torque
converter drain might be -- it's directly above a crossmember, that's
about a quarter of an inch below the bellhousing. How convenient! It's
just a few bolts to remove the cross member, but couldn't it have been
moved a couple of inches one way or the other

I have the new filter and fluid - just need non-distracted time.

You just have to remove that crossmember. Really no other place for
them to have put it though.

Thanks Dan , will give that a go. I was also told by a very experienced
Merc mechanic that the proshaft flange nut at the end of the
transmission can come loose which results in a low governer pressure
resulting in incorrect shifting.

I tried to remove the rubber coupling and slowly realised that's it's a
major job as one will have to remove the entire propshaft to end to that
flange nut - so have given up on that idea!

Strictly a seat of the pants logic comment: Drive it for a while. Sometimes
