Sounds like it needs a smaller turbo that would spin up faster. You commented that it lacks torque. Do you think that is that mostly a factor of gearing? Diesels normally have pretty decent torque so I am surprised that it lacks it. I might have guessed it would be the other way around and it would be a stump puller. The 16" wheels are Toyota wheels, they've got center logo caps. The protruding hub lockers on the front prevent them from being used there. Thumb starter switch, a toggle for glow/kill. Key does nothing but power the gauges, etc. I like its crude elegance, but wish the original instrument cluster could have been preserved. Glow plugs hooked up with a Ford starter relay, 12ga wiring somewhat inadequate, since it's a single wire to one plug and chained to the others. Motor mounts standard Benz, screwed to perches welded forwards of the originals. Left side mount oily and collapsed. Strange blowby oil recovery system. Stuff there, not sure about it, a couple of metal bottles, like pill bottles in size. Yep. HK, who used to own one of the oldest dealerships in the state, and the oldest MB dealership, also started selling mazdas in the 70s. He really had high regard for the mazda p'ups of the period, of which yours in included. clay monroe via Mercedes wrote: Well done clay 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1986 SDL - Polei 1982 300 SD - Allen retired models- 2002 s430 - Victor, a Stately& well tailored crap 1976 300D - Blei Vanst - it looks silvery 1972 220D - Gump - She was green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Gave her life to save me against a Dame in a SUV POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Trucks, on-topic
I picked up the truck today. Drives surprisingly well, but the overall experience is crude, Unimog-ish. At idle it's very noisy and vibratory. At freeway speeds it smooths right out. Boost gauge goes up to about 14 PSI before the overboost cutout drops it back to 10. Has very little low-end torque, feels like the 190D rather than the 200D, which has a very truck-like feel. You need to keep the RPM up on this to keep power on. It'll be fine, regardless. The original conversion was a non-turbo engine. The next owner switched it out for a turbo motor. The next owner sold off the spare motor, and then eventually sold me the truck. Pix and stuff to follow, when time allows. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I just bought a 4x4 Mazda B2600 LX to use as a woods truck. Stick shift, decent condition, no rust. 1987 model year.
