Hi, Dennis.

I didn't realize you were referring to the color of the seat and not the
color code on the wiring! DUH! My dad says that he can't distinguish the
color of the new seats with the old ones, and this was with the old
passenger's seat still in place. Noone else has looked at the seats since
we started the job.

[MBZ] W126 300SD power seats almost done!

2006-11-27 Thread kevin kraly

Hello everyone!

Now that I have found some wonderful matching seats for my 300SD for a
wonderful price (thanks dennis T), I was ready to tackle the project of
rr-ing them. I couldn't move the seats forward to get at the rear bolts
in the conventional way due to bad switches and bad drive cables in the case
of the driver's seat. I had to use a 1/4 drive 3/8 9mm? socket to get
under the runner and get a bite on them which I'm happy to say worked well
although time consuming!! The driver's seat went in and since it worked ok,
I was able to move the seat in the appropriate direction to line up the
holes and install the bolts. It's now road ready, at least for the driver!
I have to sit on the floor board until Dad and I tackle the passenger's side
tomorrow hahahahaha! I got that seat out as well, but since the connector
shell was broken, we've decided to solder the wires already in the connector
to those on the seat using the color code. Daylight ran out, so it's on
hold for tomorrow. Then, it's off for a test drive on the cushy seats!
Yeah!

Huh? If the connector shell is broken (at the seat end) just
replace it with another one. The parts that hang off the
wiring harnesses are separately available through your normal
parts channel. I just use junkyard ones, of course. Unless
you mean the mate that's part of the seat assembly itself is
broken. Even that might be swappable with your old one.

You shouldn't have to solder at the seat end.

Kevin,

I'm with Jim, I would have thought you could use the plastic connector case
from the old seat and just plug the new seat wiring into it. So was the
color match to your likingremembering your Dad may stretch the
truth? Hope they work well for you and outlast the car.

I do have another connector shell for the seat end, but there's no way to
know the proper color code when putting the different pins into the good
connector. Is there a way to do this? Do you just take the wires off all
of the motors on the junkyard seat and hook them up to yours?

You make it match the other seat, if one of yours is all that is
broken. The connectors come apart easily, and if you don't screw
around they go back together right with no problems. The pins
'drape' where they should go.

2006-11-27 Thread kevin kraly
Well, i'll have to take a look at things to see where the pins are
draping. They've been hanging around for a long time in Dennis's garage
and who knows how long at the original place from where they were shipped,
so who knows what's really up or down. Hopefully, they're draping the
right way so I can place them in the connector shell and mount it before
putting the seat into the car. We'll SEE how it goes tomorrow.
