than I, his price isn't that far out of line. I would say that 
$7500-$8000 is about right for his market.

So if this guy is as anal as he claims to be, then 10k for a car that 
needs nothing could be reasonable.

It's a 2000 E55.  They are wicked cool cars.  BUT, the value is probably closer 
to $7,000

I do at that, however, it sounds like the seller has unrealistic expectations 
of its value. They're looking for $10k.

You probably don't want one this old, but here is a VERY nice 126.   This is my 
Indy's shop/lot.   I can find out the price or even take a look at it if 
somebody is seriously interested.   If it was a 420 or 560, I would have bought 
it already.  It's a gorgeous car, but I think the 3.0 6 cylinder is overworked 
in this size car.

The wife wants me to find a nice sedan for myself and sell her Mazda 
so she can drive the SL500.  Ideally I would like to find a late 
model W140 sedan, but I haven't seen anything around here that I 
would own.  If anyone knows of something in their neighborhood, drop

A common fallacy.  Unless you live right on the Gulf/ocean, salt air 
is no more a consideration than anything else as far as environment. 
I once owned a 300SD that was parked in an open carport literally 
right next to the Gulf for over 5 years.  It had no more corrosion 
on it than any other car I looked at in the area, inland or along 
the coast.


The killer here is UV.  If a car is left out in the sun for most of 
its life the interior gets baked and the paint often starts failing 
on the roof, hood and trunk.

Yes,  it depends on prevailing winds.  Where I lived wind was coming 
inland 20-30 mph most of the time. and even though we were a mile 
from the water,  we got salt spray on the cars  all the time.  The 
200D survived but the escort didn't


UV got the paint on my car from chicago too.  if is just more intense 
the closer you get to the equator.

depends on how far from the water and prevailing winds.  A mile from 
the coast, we got salt on the cars, but not even a shrub between the 
water and car, and were were up a few hundred feet elevation too.


I think Dan is in a protected area, and I don't think the prevailing 
winds are blowing inshore with strength there constantly.


Salt air is not likely to rust the spring perches.  More likely to 
rust roof.  It got the roof and FR door pillar of our escort (Diesel 
content)

That looks like quite a lot of car for the money. No direct experience but
I had a customer who used the same model as a daily driver. He said it was
as reliable as any Mercedes and at 150k miles he reported no problems.
Apparently the normally aspirated engines are very reliable but brakes are
expensive. It looks like a good car for a hooligan - carefully vet prior
owners!

Some might not agree with me, but I've never liked the W210.  I think they
ride really poorly... much more like a Japanese car than a Mercedes.  My
father owned two which I drove quite a bit... a 98 E300td and a 99 E320
wagon.

That said, for the money, they're good cars if someone just needs something
reliable, safe, and modern.  A later E320 is a great buy right now.

I can't comment on the AMG variant... I have no idea.

The W211, btw, was a huge improvement in ride and restore my faith in these
cars.
