Re: [MBZ] Way OT: Dental implant

2021-10-14 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Got top left wisdom tooth yanked today. Wasn't bothering me, but I had the
lower one out a few years ago and the top one was slowly falling out because
there was nothing below it.

After the extraction the dentist said the root was infected so good thing it
was done.

The crown/cap expense on top of the implants he ballparked at $1,000. Going
back in two weeks for a checkup on today's extraction and further deliberations
on the implant proposal.

Well, my Dad - a Dentist by trade - put an implant in my sister when she
broke off a front tooth back in the late 1960's. It lasted till the late
1980's. Granted, it was still cutting edge at that time.

How much of that was the implants and how much were the crowns?

Two extractions and one implant estimate was $3,400 before insurance.

I don't yet know what the crown will cost as that's back to my regular dentist
to do. I see him again on Thursday.

[MBZ] Way OT: Dental implant

2021-10-12 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
So my dentist sent me to a periodontist to have a "pocket" around my top back
molar evaluated. Its the tooth right next to my wisdom tooth. It's not
bothering me but the dentist says it will become a problem.

Periodontist wants to extract that tooth and the wisdom tooth, do a bone graft
and an implant (basically a titanium post) then my regular dentist will put a
crown on the implant.

This will all run at least $3k with insurance covering some unknown amount but
I'm likely out of pocket at least $2k.

I have HSA savings to cover it but this just seems like a lot of money for one
tooth that's not even visible. Wondering how much I would miss having that
tooth if my dentist just did the extractions and left it at that.
