I'm not sure but that is interesting. The glass wasn't bad at all but not
what I expected, and the hockey player installation (damage discovered
months later) soured me on the deal.

Now I wonder if Volvo glass is as cheap. That's what I need next.

The windshield was for a '55 300SL restoration I assisted with. I saved the
old pitted one with thoughts of a coffee table top but cracked it while
moving houses and it was not flat enough to be practical anyway. I'll see
if I can find pictures...

Tom,

The windshield is for the 1994 S420, not your former car, so don’t sweat it.

So do you still have the gullwing windshield? Or was it for a restoration?

Randy,

For what it's worth, we looked at the EPC using the gasket number and the
"where used" function (you don't get this feature in the home version, sorry!).
There appears to have been two styles only - the three bolt flange and the four
bolt flange. Neither are still available.

Thanks Dan.

One would think that with the number of these old MB diesels still
running around, all over the world, those might still be in enough
demand to have them produced - especially since they are no doubt very

Genuine glass is worth the money and usually not so expensive. I put a
windshield in my 300CD earlier this year and it was surprisingly cheap.

But then again, genuine everything is generally better!

I replaced an aftermarket glass that was badly chipped. Poor quality.

I don't know about that. Considering that aftermarket glass is readily

[MBZ] Windshields was Tire Opinions

2013-02-05 Thread Max Dillon
Prices sound fair to high. Beware the frame preparation work. All old sealant
must be removed, any rust needs to be remediated, and a really high quality
metal primer/paint applied to the frame to prevent future rust which will crack
the windshield.

Going cheap is the most expensive route! My E300 has the scars to prove it.
