I think they meant the blue urea stuff, not coolant - reporters should not be allowed to write anything technical. I don't actually know but I suspect its something like: The coolant leaks into a chamber thats a bazillion degrees during regeneration, the water boils out of the coolant and the resulting "stuff" is hot enough to ignite. -Curt On Wednesday, October 24, 2018, 2:53:30 PM EDT, Randy Bennell via Mercedes wrote: So, the engine overheats when the coolant leak becomes an issue and that causes the soot to ignite? [MBZ] Yet another reason not to drive a BMW diesel
BMW to recall 1.6M vehicles worldwide over fire riskPublished: Tuesday, October 23, 2018 Automaker BMW says it is expanding a recall to cover 1.6 million vehicles worldwide due to possible fluid leaks that could result in a fire. BMW said today that in some diesel vehicles, coolant could leak from the exhaust gas recirculation module, part of the emissions reduction system. The leaks could combine with soot at high temperatures and lead to a fire. The Munich-based company had already decided to recall 480,000 vehicles in Asia and Europe after fires were reported in South Korea. No injuries were reported. Further examination led to an expansion of the maintenance action. The recall covers some vehicles made between 2010 and 2017; a company statement said customers with affected cars would be contacted. Some 54,700 vehicles are affected in the U.S and Canada. *— Associated Press* ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
