Re: [MBZ] a/c questions
Hey Dwight, Don't know if it's something happening at all MB dealers but they seem to becoming *much* more interested in pleasing customers at a time *other* than when a big check is being written. I had our local MB dealer change the rear axle juice (which I provided) for me. Called them at 9AM and set up an appointment - they performed the work at 2PM. Along with changeing the rear axle fluid they also washed and vacuumed the car - all was done quickly for $25. Things have really changed! LarryT 78 240D s Porsche Posters!! Re: [MBZ] a/c questions
Yes Larry. That's great. Of the three dealers I can access easily, one is still criminal-remember lister John Peterson's transmission saga there a few years ago? The other one is helpful but not particularly good on old diesels. They even bring me a loaner car when they take the 240D in-pretty funny. But the best one advertises a 'classic care center' with a big poster of 108/109 and they say the three techs have a combined 78 years experience on old MB's. You can talk to the techs, etc. Of course, shop rate is higher but they give me a loaner (usually a beat W202) so I don't mind the 50 mile trip-the sales manager has a mint 124 E420, so I stop and BS with him. Really a candy store trip. In fairness though, at our New England MB fest last fall there was a story of how they had seriously overcharged another lister on an SL repair. For anyone near New London CT, it is Carriage House MB. Well one bright side of the recession -especially in the cr business is that they might start paying attention to the service and parts end of the business. Dwight Dwight E. That's very surprising... When I pull into the local MB dealer for parts driving an 80s MBZ, they treat me like I have some sort of disease they don't want to catch. Even if they have 20 employees on staff, they immediately peg me as the sort of guy that isn't about to buy a $100k car so it takes a LONG time to talk to anyone, and they make very little effort to sell me anything. I'm in Riverside, CA. This same dealer who scorns and ignores me when I go in has been given numerous customer service awards by Mercedes Benz. My wife won't go in with me anymore when I pick up parts, since she was so offended by the way they treated us the one time she came. It must take a certain type of person to work at a Mercedes dealership; I would never be able to tell a customer with a straight face that the tiny coolant hose they're looking for will cost $375.67 and will take 1 week to come from Germany. A lot of companies now are requesting on you giving a 10 rating on customer satisfaction cards-e.g Hilton. I use either a side-tap arrangement, which is a standard R12 tap belted to the side, or a better one made from a fitting taken from an actual camp stove that I got at Goodwill. For propane, I have a tap made from an old SolidOx torch and some flare fitting off of a car's AC system, along with some rubber hose and two hose clamps, but you could drill the center out of a standard propane torch head too.
