I actually would not mind another 115. I've owned three of them, 2 automatics (2 - 1975 240Ds) 1 manual transmission (1972 220D). Re: [MBZ] bonding with the 300SD
My three were a '70 220D manual, and 2 '76 300D automatics. Nice cars except for the propensity to rust, the AC compressor being over the alternator, and the heater fan. I feel the 123 has less charactor and driving feel than the 115. The 107 has a bit more. The 124 is about the same, the 126 is totally different. Darn! I'd about forgotten those -- and ther was only one way you could get that canister in/out - and it involved tipping it just enough to pour hot oil down your arm. Don't remind me of the other things I've forgotten (besides getting me addicted to the three pointed start). We had a 1972 220D/8, which I really enjoyed. The only thing that keeps me from getting another is the old filter cannister. I think the oil cannister did get me a job once, though. The day before I drove from Sacramento, CA, to San Luis Obispo, I changed the oil on our car. During the interview, the owner noticed the black under my finger nails and asked about it. I think he felt comfortable hiring me because he knew I could work with my hands. Don't remind me of the other things I've forgotten (besides getting me addicted to the three pointed start). Herman was our first Benz. And yes, I'm addicted, too. C'mon now, I know you lust in your heart for the next 115 Just as I lust for a 116 diesel. Your right, but there's room in the driveway! I know someone on another list with a '72 220D that I want to buy. It would be neat to have a car from my birth year, but a nice '75 or '76 300D is more powerful. Re: [MBZ] bonding with the 300SD
A 108 SEL 4.5, a 108 SE 4.5, and a 280 (114 or /8?). No shortage of power there with any of those cars! Is the 4.5L engine any different than that in the later W116 450SE/SEL? A friend of mine had a nice '74 450SEL a few years back which seems to be quite rare these days, at least for one that's isn't trashed. [MBZ] bonding with the 300SD
Old Ursula hadn't been driven in nearly a month, so I thought I'd go out and start her up to go for a drive. BT, WRONG, dead battery! I had a brand new Autozone special waiting to go in. I got the old one out and was greeted by a partially rotted out battery tray and LOTS AND LOTS of leaves and debris around it and in the hood hinge drains! I vacuumed everything out and installed the battery. It started up with some cranking, and it's ready to go again. I'm going to need to find a new battery tray to replace mine that has one corner totally rusted away. I also replaced the air filter which was a bit dirty. The oil change and valve adjustment are next. I now have a couple skinned knuckles to show for my work.
