If you need 5 and they charge you for 4.5 that's incompetence but not a
ripoff.

I went to a Jiffy Lube in Albuquerque for an oil change for the BRV (I had
no place to do one). They said it took 4.5 quarts and filled it so. I
looked in the manual and found it really took 5 quarts. I went back and
complained. They were very agreeable and put the extra 0.5 quart in. They
asked if there was anything else they could do. I had them check the level
of differerential gear oil, which they did not charge for.

But shorting each customer 0.5 quart would be a rip-off.

That is why we call them stealers. Oh, and they will give the customer
a XXX (fill in the xs with numbers) point checklist that they claim to to, but
as long as it has wiper blades and some juice in the washer tanks, all those
XXX points are "just fine" unless the stealer or shop monkey needs to make a
payment on his newer. bigger boat. Then several other things will be "done"
(in theory) to rack up the bill. Scam city.

Re: [MBZ] crazy prices for service at the stealer

2018-01-30 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I used to have a good dealer 150 miles away. As is usually the case, it
was a very old dealership, having sold studebakers since cars had wood
spokes, long before Stue began importing MBs. Like most of the good old
dealers, they are long gone. Now the stealers have to have (and
support) new expensive glass showrooms on expensive real estate.

Same with BMW motorcycle stealers. I had a great dealer about 90 miles
away. It was in an old building that had been added onto many times.
They only had 1 to 3 machines, new or used in the (dusty) showroom. An
8' garage door open meant they were open. They grove gravel trucks to
pay for keeping the doors open. They stocked everything I ever needed.
They were knowledgeable and always fair. BMW kicked them out for a
fancy showroom 35 miles further in a bigger town, where they stocked
maybe 20 new BMWs (10 more than they could sell) and went under in a
few years. Rinse, wash, repeat

I knew of a couple great old BMW car dealers too. They got forced out
of business by BMW before they got around to making motorcycles part of
the "luxury" image.

Well another point of view I have a dealer about 50 miles,away- Carriage
House of New London CT that is,honest & very competent. They have been
straight with me & a MB friend for 15 years. Of course there is a nearby
stealer that does oversell.

No, it is a gasser.
Uses some sort of GM synthetic AT fluid but even so, if it used 8 liters
of $25 fluid, and we calculated the taxes on it,  it would still be over
$300 labour to drain it and re-fill it.
