Re: [MBZ] repair undercoating

2020-01-07 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
The kit I bought on Amazon came with "Wool Wax" which is basically the same
stuff as Fluid Film but slightly less sheep smelling.I've been using it a lot
on guns, especially the last few weeks of the season when I was hunting in the
rain a lot. Seemed to help keep rust from setting in.Today I finally got the
muzzleloaders out and shot out the hunting loads, then did a serious cleaning.
I even took the ramrod thimbles off the .54. Apparently they're steel (the .45
has brass) and had a little surface rust inside. I used WD40 on a paper towel
to wipe away the rust and Wool Wax as a preventative.
Actually for "I even" on the .45 I removed the touch hole liner (its a
flintlock) it was a touch dirty inside but no problem.

The three can kit with the long hose:

Only drawback is that it makes you car smell like sheep. Not a problem as long
as there aren’t any shepherds nearby. Wicked awesome stuff.

yes.  it is a forward facing fan.    It does not spray back toward
you.   It does not specify the cone angle.  Probably 45, so 22.5 each
way from where you point it.

Baa-aaa-aa

It says it provides a coating for a year.   I am looking for a permanent
thing.

Wally has a rustoleum product in a rattle can that appears to be their
competitor to POR-15.   I think it may be a good first coat.   And, If I
can't do any better, it may be the final coat.

I was thinking more along the lines of a "clean in place" (CIP) ball for
a tank.   A sphere with holes all around.   It will coat everything
inside a tank or other enclosed space.    With the eastwood items, you
still spray from one side to the other, so in a cube, you need access to
all 6 sides.
