[MBZ] u-pull discovery
Visited a u-pull yard (first time at that sort of place) that specializes in imports. It is about about a 30 minute drive from my house. Was not even aware that it existed, until I was referred there by our local salvage yard. Found a left-hand rear jump seat for my Nissan Frontier that I have been scouring the internet trying to find. Noted that they had lots of late model Benz wrecks, along with Volkswagens, Volvos, BMWs, and the lots of Japanese stuff. Didn't see much in the way of older W123s etc. but that was not really why I was there. Quick question -- do you normally negotiate prices at a place like this? I did not today, as I thought the price was reasonably fair and I was just happy to find what I was looking for -- but as a general practice, is it worth counter-offering at places like this? Re: [MBZ] u-pull discovery
The local yard here is called Pick-A-Part, and their prices are all posted and non-negotiable...unless it comes to deciding whether it's a specific or misc. item, which sometimes has a significant price difference. I much prefer their pricing scheme, over the older hit n' miss yards of yore. On 8/1/07, Allan Streib [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Quick question -- do you normally negotiate prices at a place like this? Visited a u-pull yard (first time at that sort of place) ...do you normally negotiate prices at a place like The U-Pulls (where you pull your own parts) seem to be pretty much take-it-or-leave-it kinds of places. Big conventional yards are also non-negotiable. Just like in any other business, if it's high-volume and you're not buying _in_ volume, the prices are fixed. Small yards you could maybe dicker, but only _before_ the guy pulls the part for you! -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I would dicker with the guy at the foreign auto parts salvage yard I went to occasionally, if I was buying a bunch of little bits. He was a middle eastern guy, seemed to be by way of Mexico, didn't seem to phase him a bit, and acted like it was a normal way to do things, which I think it was. His first WAG at a price was always ridiculous anyway, and I think if I hablaed espanol I would have gotten a better deal to begin with. This one didn't. There are truckish salvage yards I see on my occasional travels through the southern states, probably is some sort of network of them. Used prices are traditionally set at 50% of the new cost, or less depending on availability and supply/demand. If you are looking for parts at a junk yard you should *always* know the price of the part new before going in. The guy first asked if I already had gotten a quote (no) then made a show of looking in a couple of books he pulled from an immense pile on his desk. The one I attend has a price list and that is what you pay. Sometimes the counter people like you and know you, so they cut a deal on things and call it all good. If you are a jerk, they will count and charge for every little item, but I am nice and get a 4 for 3 price on things or miscounts/measures for trim, the large tail lights shrink when they are rung up... things like that clay On 1 Aug 2007, at 07:00, Allan Streib wrote: Visited a u-pull yard (first time at that sort of place) that specializes in imports.
