Re: [MBZ] 1985 300TD on BAT
Geez, its been beautiful before. I've got a game camera out in a spot where I've seen deer. That season doesn't start until December but I'd like to get an idea when the deer are in the area. So today I went and checked the camera and did a little fishing. I took my rubber boots so I could cross Otter river. Theres a spit of land where 2 rivers meet that otherwise requires a 2 mile hike across a railroad bridge to reach. I got there but the water got just over the top of the boots. I found a honey hole, a beaver pond (a pond in the river created by a beaver dam) that hadn't been fished. Nothing big but a bunch of white and yellow perch, trout, and sunfish. Good fun. Tons of deer sign, I suspect I'll spend a bunch of time there in December... -Curt On Friday, September 4, 2020, 7:59:32 PM EDT, Dan Penoff via Mercedes wrote: I don’t know about Florida. Ah, forgot the index. I have been tracking daily and hourly temps in multiple locations, noting “that ain’t that hot”. My eye turns from the cookie cutter casitas built in the past half century. That seems to pre-select a more urban setting with a vernacular architecture. Looking on real estate pages, the “updates” applied to classic homes curdles the humours. It feels as if they took Granny to a strip club to get a make over. We will see how the current civil unrest unfolds and long term impacts on demand and services washes out. I would much prefer to return to the Tri-Star fold sooner, but expect Kamala will be endorsing her successors before the move. clay “I think it’s time we stopped our cringing embarrassment about our history, about our traditions, and about our culture, and we stop this general bout of self-recrimination and wetness.” B. Re: [MBZ] 1985 300TD on BAT
The car had minimal stuff replaced. Fundamentally a 35 year old underpowered car with some flaws and a lot of expense required to bring it back to good condition. I'm with Allan. 16k is a fortune for that car. You could easily put 10k into it to make it nice, and even then it would not be perfect. Insurance did just offer me 6k to fix a clapped out 83 wagon after it got hit by a car transporter, so they must think even a poor example is worth at least that much. Not even sure I will fix it. The BAT price history graph shows not many 123 wagons selling for under 10k. So that seems to be the floor for a presentable example. I don't disagree, but this particular example did not strike me as especially remarkable, fairly nice but not flawless and not worth much more than an "average market value" bid. That someone spent $16,000 on that car is just insane to me. It seems the covid economy has captured disposable income spending. Just read an article a few days ago about how even people splitting the check in a restaurant are now calculating the "share" down to the penny, where before, a buck or two was "close enough". 120 days of unsure jobs, closed businesses, and wearing masks while locked in houses has, it seems, generated a hang on to your wallet culture coupled with businesses burned and looted every night... There is something icky about it. Paint over everything doesn’t help. The left lower quarter appears to have had a rust repair but the contours were done wrong-too squared off.
