They cannot be repaired so far as I know, they are sonic welded together or something. Usually the seat goes bad on the valve, or it fails to open properly. Dan, I did a coolant flush 2 years ago. I had a monovalve issue on my 1983 300D a few years ago and that was the fix. Done a flush and fill in recent years? I would suggest checking the monovalve, but if it was acting up you would just get straight heat, and lots of it.
