On one of the American Chopper episodes they put a Dixie Chopper engine in a motorcycle. I hope it's bigger than the 15hp Kubota in the Cub Cadet 782D. We had a Kubota B7100 with a 750CC 3 cyl diesel, and later bought an L2500 with a 1220CC diesel (IIRC), also 3 cyl. They were good tractors in their own right, but a Kubota engine in a bike is just weird. Re: [MBZ] 85 280SL
Is the 603 as heavy as the 617? The 117 in the 450SLs is NOT a light weight engine! I doubt that any of the automobile OM engines are as heavy. > > Ahhh, a Jim Cathey project! Hold on! Tony is in Seattle and could just head over to Aurora Auto and find all sorts of repair bits. They will have parts for the SL or whole engines. clay On 30 Dec 2007, at 19:15, Hendrik & Fay wrote: > I wouldn't put another engine in it, fix the original one and it > will be > worth more. > That and the engine may well be a high compression one as compared to > the ones that where build for the US market. > If you are going the new engine route I would suggest you find a > wrecked > SL or SLC and swap over, something like a 380 or 450 would be good. > However if you are gonna get serious make sure you check for rust, > even > with a stuffed engine 3K is pretty cheap for an 85. Re: [MBZ] 85 280SL
I wouldn't put another engine in it, fix the original one and it will be worth more. That and the engine may well be a high compression one as compared to the ones that where build for the US market. If you are going the new engine route I would suggest you find a wrecked SL or SLC and swap over, something like a 380 or 450 would be good. However if you are gonna get serious make sure you check for rust, even with a stuffed engine 3K is pretty cheap for an 85. Would be worth at least 3x as much over here, even with a buggered engine.
