And, based upon what I read in the paper here this morning, it may be 
far from over. The normal wet period lasts until March so there are 
likely more storms coming.

Article in the newspaper here this morning also says the folks from this 
area of Australia are often considered somewhat rustic so will likely 
be tougher and better able to cope with this mess than some might be.

The story I heard today is that only $0.6 billion of the $1.6b pledged
has been given.  Plus, most of the money is to be used for new
projects, while the majority of help needed is clean-up, of which only
5% has been accomplished because no money available for clean-up -
only for new projects.

Well - I would guess that the difference there is that Haiti is third
world poor nation, whereas Brisbane is quite modern and financially
viable?

over the donate anything you can! angle with Haiti, and it just seems odd

I'm glad that there is an offer on the table though, it strengthens my small
belife that we as a country still get it.

Just wanted to let you know Walt that your country does still  get it 
 we sure appreciate it.


The offer of help came from Hilary Clinton just before Christmas when 
the flood situation got bad  was starting to spread through the state.

They were lucky, I being reading/seeing reports of people being trapped 
in there houses as the flood waters carried the house downstream and all 
eyewitness could do was stand  listen to the screams.
