2015-06-19 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
No, it's not, as long as you fabricate the tool. I made mine out of a piece of
scrap oak and it worked just fine. A bit frightening when brandishing a big
hammer with a piece of oak right next to a freshly painted finish.

That being said there are those out there who might not be inclined to do this,
or unable to find the diagram of the tool in the W123 CB manual.

The black rubber part is especially nasty, as if it gets the least bit
distorted while handling it the metal core won't grip the anodized aluminum
in the rain gutter.

I'm talking about the trim on a W123 wagon. Tough stuff to work with.

Re: [MBZ] Fixing oxidized chrome trim

2015-06-19 Thread Darren Marshall via Mercedes
I'll get more pics together, body is in great condition, very very little
rust, nothing on the underside or wheel wells, I think it may have been
resprayed in the 80s, clearcoat seems to have disappeared on one of the
doors, but with a good wax you can't tell ;) -- I think the color is
Calendonia

As mentioned trim is oxidized, interior is almost mint, but I had to
replace a driver seat which was an 8hr pain in the ass, and needs to be
re-tracked.

She's a real looker from 5ft

214k miles, I'm having belt issues regularly. I think I need a replacement
tension bolt but can't seem to find one.

I also have no idea what it's actually worth

Is it nice? How cheap are you letting it go? My 190D has about had it, the
tin worm will not be denied any longer. I'm considering a new W123 if I
 could find one cheap.
