Clean thoroughly first. Then ozone. Ozone will oxidize the rubber and plastic in the cabin. Yes. So don't go nuts with it. The best solution I have found was to use a 10/1 water/hydrogen peroxide > solution in a spray bottle. This has no deleterious effect on plastic, > rubber, leather, or wool carpet. It does not bleach or stain, H2O2 is basically liquid ozone. Both O3 and H2O2 release a free oxygen radical when provoked, which binds vigorously with the nearby whatever. Hopefully something stinky. H2O2 _is_ a bleach, and will cause problems if over-used. Just like ozone. Usually, in the concentrations of either that you can make or buy, both are relatively mild and pretty safe. I was at the thrift shop recently, and they had two ozone generators there, $7 each. These are $100+ units, and both worked. (These are basically small fluorescent-style lights in a shielded, fanned case, using germicidal [clear quartz envelope, no phosphors] bulbs.) I opened one up, to glue some loose parts back down, and the interior of the black plastic housing was all white and oxidized, from the UV light and/or ozone. Big deal. I had a smelly towel that no amount of laundering would clear up. I hung it in the bathroom and ran the two units in there, door closed, overnight. The moldy smell is gone. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Ozone will help, but you've got to dry the car out really well, and keep it dry. I've heard that mold can be killed with high heat, 140 degrees, held for 24 hours. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '87 300TD '95 E300 On October 21, 2017 8:48:13 PM EDT, "Kaleb C. Re: [MBZ] Getting moldy stale smell out of car
I would not use ozone for more than minor smells. Odors and Reeking need a better approach. Ozone will oxidize the rubber and plastic in the cabin. It would be better to strip out the interior and hand clean it, or stuff it into a container and blast it with ozone there. The best solution I have found was to use a 10/1 water/hydrogen peroxide solution in a spray bottle. This has no deleterious effect on plastic, rubber, leather, or wool carpet. It does not bleach or stain, and gently removes the offending source of stench. You can scrub with a soft brush as well as terry toweling on smoother surfaces. Initial cleansing requires almost saturation, or at least dampness. It works on metal, as well as soft parts. The improvement is not immediate, as it requires multiple applications over a number of weeks, but the smell is fully removed in the end. The peroxide in the solution keeps mold and odors from developing on the damp surfaces. I used it on at least five cars in the past four years. It was a very good way to clean up PnP parts that wanted to be installed or sold on. clay clay 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1986 SDL - Polei 1982 300 SD - Allen retired models- 2002 s430 - Victor, a Stately & well tailored crap 1976 300D - Blei Vanst - it looks silvery 1972 220D - Gump - She was green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Gave her life to save me against a Dame in a SUV POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers > On Oct 21, 2017, at 12:05 PM, Kaleb C.
