Re: [MBZ] Happy Birthday, Manfred!

2019-05-14 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
For sure none of them are perfect, and we all know of screw ups from each of
them, I’m sure. I suspect a part of the shipping promptness for me involves
distance, so if something from AZ is coming and they drag their feet getting it
out the door, it’s that much longer that it takes.

The only time I can recall an issue with FCP Euro was actually my fault - I
didn’t notice that one item I ordered was out of stock, so when things hadn’t
shipped after a day or two I made an inquiry. That’s when they pointed out that
one item was backordered but it had arrived that day, so the order went out
that day.

Oops!+

I will say that the guys I order from in Germany for a lot of my W111 stuff are
amazingly prompt. I’ll order on a Tuesday and have the stuff in hand on Friday.

Re: [MBZ] Happy Birthday, Manfred!

2019-05-14 Thread Jaime Kopchinski via Mercedes
I've had mixed experiences... many times I order from FCP and they don't
ship for another day or so. I also have orders they ship from other
warehouses other than their own, which probably adds to the delay. Other
times I get stuff over night (as ground shipping CT -> NJ is 1 day), even
delivered on Saturday which is standard for Fedex and UPS Ground.

I have placed a few ordered from AutohausAZ recently, mainly because they
had things that FCP did not. I was surprised by getting my most recent
order (air mass meter for my W140) overnight, shipped from an NJ
warehouse. I just ordered rings and bearings for a 4.5 engine from AZ this
morning... it'll be interesting to see where something a bit more obscure
ships from.

I did have a positive customer service experience from FCP recently... I
ordered a bunch of 236.6 and 236.10 ATF, but they sent me all 236.10. I
didn't realize this until I went to use the 236.6, so ended up using 236.10
instead. I emailed them and they sent me the 236.6 I was missing free of
charge, realizing I couldn't easily return fluid I already used. I was
impressed. It was about $100 of product they ate the cost of.

Re: [MBZ] Happy Birthday, Manfred!

2019-05-14 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I can assure you that neither FedEx, USPS nor UPS “hold” shipments. They’re not
in the business of inventorying or warehousing (the shipping parts of their
business, that is. They do have divisions that offer logistical services, but
they’re separate from the shipping businesses.) What often happens is that a
vendor will generate a a shipping tag or record as a function of their internal
ordering system, which creates a record in the shipper’s system. However, this
just generates a shipping label and record in the system when the item hasn’t
left the seller. You’ll see a shipment notice with a tracking number but no
tracking information. I hate this as some suppliers like to claim an item as
“shipped” when in reality it hasn’t left their dock.

I do know that FedEx does prioritize shipments in that during times of high
volume a shipment that is “regular” FedEx versus FedEx Home will take priority,
possibly bumping the “Home” service shipment off the truck to the next day’s
delivery. They’re the only carrier I know of that does this.

And yes, Manfred, I experienced the “same day/next day maybe” stuff from
AutohausAZ twice. After calling them about it just to have them explain that
this was a “maybe” and not guaranteed unless I wanted to pay a premium for it,
I decided to take my business elsewhere. That being said, I still will, on
occasion, order little noncritical stuff from them like copper washers or O
rings that they sell the OEM versions for rather than buying them from the
dealer at greatly inflated prices. These are things I’m not in a hurry for and
just have sent via a slow boat (USPS first class mail).

Again, I’ve ordered from FCP Euro many times now and their shipping is always
prompt. They use WorldPac for some stuff, so if it’s in a WorldPac warehouse
down this way it’s really quick.

Didn't think about the flood problems. Though
I see that Dan has had the same problem with
shipping delay from them. I'll try FCP next
time and see.

Thanks!

My orders from FCPEURO are very prompt. I have always had issues with shipping
times from Autohaus AZ. For that matter, shipping from Harbor Freight sucks
also (FedEx ground from the West coast).

Not the case with UPS and the last order from FCPEURO was FedEx and very prompt also. I am East of the Mississippi, and it seems anything from the West coast takes the slow ride to get here. I'm sure the flooding isn't helping ship times either.

BTW, Happy Birthday Manfred!

I'll have to try them the next time.

AutohausAZ has a history of being lousy about shipping, that’s why I stopped
using them after a few tries. Their claims of “Same day shipping” or whatever
were never fulfilled, if you look in the fine print it says “same day or next
day”. I ordered parts over the weekend a couple of times assuming that they
would ship out on Monday and they didn’t.

As Rick mentioned, FCP Euro does a really good job with shipping, even when you
get the free shipping. I often have things in 2-3 days from them if not sooner.

Have pending repairs to the front of the TD. All tie rods and center link,
Steering shock, shocks and ball joints. Figure to do it all at once to avoid
repeated disassembly. It's been over 100k since it was last done so not too bad.
Got the parts from Autohaus. Not too impressed with them this time. Ordered and
paid on the 5th at 1pm, they didn't send till the 7th and it finally got here
on the 11th. And that was over $200 of stuff. Disappointing.

I can see that. What gets me is the 'we ship
the same day' bit and then they don't till
the day after or more.
