Supplemental Restraint System. Which means supplemental to seat belts.

Do you have a good charge in your battery? I know some cars start showing
different warning lights if the charge is low. ABS will do this sometimes.

The SRS light stayed on in my 1997 e320 this morning after I started it.
Anyone know of usual cause for the light not to go off?

Thanks,

Re: [MBZ] SRS Replacement

2006-04-19 Thread Dave M.
I uploaded the airbag TSB to my website. It's a 7kb PDF file:

http://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/other/airbag_service_life.pdf

It's short but worth reading if you own a Mercedes with an airbag.
It's dated September 2002 so it's pretty recent information.

Airbags up to 1991 are supposed to be replaced when they are 15 years
old, but I've not yet heard of "old" bags not firing. Airbags from
1992 up are designed to last the lifetime of the car - there's a TSB

You mean like 'sealed-for-life' bearings? Translation: once they
_do_ go bad, replacement is so expensive (or even impossible) that
the car is scrap!

that says so, I have the PDF at home, don't think I've uploaded it to

and 1992-up airbag for your early W124/W126/W201, IMO!! They're not
all that expensive from salvage yards.

Does that mean the air bag *should* have been replaced then or *was*
replaced then?

First time I've seen a sticker like this - and it looked to be official MB
stuff.

Any thoughts?
BTW, when we start the car the SRS self test light comes on - so I assume
the system is armed and operable ;-)

The bags have been extended twice, they are good for 20 years now (last
time I checked).

I believe that is a _should_ sticker. Our '86 SL's have them, with
a date of 96. Later DBAG revised the good lifetime estimate to be
15 years, not 10.

Given the price of a replacement I'm going to operate on the 'better
than nothing' principle, and assume it's still good. And continue
wearing the belt!

Sounds like the car was in a front-end collision and the airbag was
replaced. 10 years is the recommended SRS check time, and at some point MB
USA extended the check to 15 years in the 124. Marshall will correct me if
I'm wrong.

Re: [MBZ] SRS brake fluid change

2005-09-29 Thread Dave M.
The 1987 190D-T has standard ABS brakes. Just pressure bleed as
normal. The only special procedures are for cars with ASR (electronic
traction control), which was only offered on gas engines from the
early 90's and up.
