My favorite comedian growing up! Percy Dovetonsils and other brilliant
skits, some with Edie Adams his beautiful wife. Died young, like so many
others (Gilda, Andy Kaufman, Belushi, John Candy, Phil Hartman, the list
goes on...)

LOL. Reminds me of the Laurel and Hardy film where they bid on a
grandfather clock as a favor to another bidder. The two ended up competing
against each other, running the price to $300. Naturally, the guy never
returned so they were stuck with the clock. Anyone remember the title of
that film?

I’m not going to provide an accounting at this point as I don’t know what it
would be. I have a round number in mind, which would be within about 15%-20%
below what I believe to be market price on this car. To be honest, if I broke
even I would be happy, as the things I’ve learned working on this car have been
invaluable and will help immensely in future acquisitions as far as
understanding what will be required to make another car right, if necessary.

I planned on restoring this as best as possible and if the market permitted,
leverage it to find one in better condition.

The market permits. I’ll see if I can get BaT money for it then go looking for

get submitted to BaT.

I know someone who has a car in to BaT right now, and they’re saying they have
a two week lead time for auctions. That’s a heck of a backlog, considering
they’re doing far more than 15-20 cars a day.

Do I not recall a declaration that you intended to keep this car long
term? We were all suggesting it would not be around for long but you
were telling us we were wrong.

Re: [MBZ] This is Sort of Tempting

2019-07-14 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I think this is one that was built during the Ford ownership. My brother had
one from about this time frame, and it was amazingly reliable for a Jaguar.

I gave him a lot of crap about buying it, but pretty much ended up eating my
words as I don’t recall him ever having issues with it. I’ve got to call him
tonight, so i’ll try and remember to ask him about it.

The finnie gets finished today. I’m preparing to go out to the garage this
morning and install the refinished wood trim on the left side door cards, and
that’s it. I’m planning on driving it to work some time this coming week to
take some beauty shots of it in front of a local theater downtown, then it will
get submitted to BaT.

I know someone who has a car in to BaT right now, and they’re saying they have
a two week lead time for auctions. That’s a heck of a backlog, considering
they’re doing far more than 15-20 cars a day.

Re: [MBZ] This is Sort of Tempting

2019-07-14 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes

Reminds me of an experience.

Some years ago when this model first came out, I rented one at Budget,
they had high-end cars and if you were some kind of preferred member you
could rent them.  I had to go to our DC office to clean out the office
of a guy I had worked with, he was actually something of a friend, whom
I got fired after finding out he was actually working with another
company against our interests.  It was a nasty day, and my mood matched
it.  I got in that car at DCA though, it was cranberry with a biscuit
interior, all leather, that thing was gorgeous and smelled soo good.
Car had delivery miles on it, was brand new.  After dealing with the
matter in the office, I decided to head out and just drive through the
Virginia countryside.  I probably drove around for 2-3hours just
decompressing from the bad experience, just cruising back country roads.
It was like a bit of heaven, some nice tunes on the stereo, the car
smell, the ride and handling, and it as getting a lot of looks too it
was so pretty.

Go for it!
