Re: [MBZ] Window Regulator Replacement

2014-09-20 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
The wife still has her 2005 Mazda 6S, but that's it. Everything else is an MB.
 2 - W140s, 1 - R129, 1 - W124.

I can understand the concerns about the W140s from the time of the original 'Q,
but enough time has passed that there is so much information out there in
DIYLand that it's made the repairs much more accessible. Half the battle is
knowing what to expect.

I was showing the S420 to a friend last night and he was amazed at the
condition for the age and mileage, as well as the cost. "I need to go out and
buy some old Mercedes', too!" he said. I quickly cautioned him that while they
were fairly inexpensive to maintain, if he had to pay someone he would be
better off buying a new car.

I just put in a new window regulator (>$50 from FLAPS) and a lumbar bladder in
the driver's seat (about $35 from dealer) this afternoon. Total time for the
labor, maybe an hour, and that's stretching it. Under $80 for the parts.

Last thing to do is to sort out the rear sunshade, which has decided to stop in
the up position. This is a common failure mode which requires removal of the
shade and motor. No parts needed, just some cleaning and tweaking to the
motor. Back seat and parcel shelf have to come out, which will not be fun.
This will be an ordeal, which is why I did the regulator and lumbar bladder
first. Ge the easy stuff out of the way.

REgulator is one thing, window motor is another. Has to be programed
at the dealer so the computer knows which one to operate when you push
the switch

Really?

Do you have any domestic, or Asian auto's left?

Prices on 123s and 124s seem really high compared to 140s and 210s. ‎

i'm sure you recall how back when we met the talk was how the 140s were the
death of DIY and how they'd never reach into old age on account of it?

Put a new regulator on the right rear window in the S420 today. All of
under $50 in parts from FLAPS and maybe 30 minutes of work.

Even though they're riveted in place on the W140s they're easy peasey to
replace.
