Re: Mersenne: Alot of small exponents for double checking will be reassigned tonight and the following days
If you want small exponents you better try to get them tonight and the following days cause a lot of them are going be released again tonight... I skimmed through the assigned exponents list and counted about 20 exponents that are (almost) overdue... So be there when you want them... I thought about this but with the thousands of clients, wouldn't the chance of getting one of these be 0? Can anyone tell how many exponents are handed out each minute/second? Mersenne: FDIV Pentium error
I was wondering if Prime95 is affected by the Pentium FDIV bug. (or some name like that). I ask this because now i'm also using it on my laptop (great work george!) and when i installed linux some time ago it said the processor had this bug. Floris Looyesteyn _ Do You Yahoo!? Re: Mersenne: Really really crazy idea...
We are always in search of more CPU power. Since toasters are not (yet) powerful enough to run LL tests, I thought we might turn to the second greatest mass of CPU power: consoles. If i remember right this was mentioned earlier on the list People then said most consoles are really bad at accurate floating point calculations because they aren't used much in games. something else: I still believe we should make a mersenne virus which will let all infected computer calculate mersenne primes. unfortunately this would give a real bad name to GIMPS. but lets hear your thought on this Floris Looyesteyn ( who has to retest 2 7mil primes which were at 70%) Unsubscribe list info -- http://www.scruz.net/~luke/signup.htm
Re: Mersenne: all these primes...
i thought of a good reason to have enormous prime numbers: we would use them to impress extraterrestrial intelligences, should That is indeed a great idea! they may call them something else, such as freemblookum primes, actually they call them du=fjxxqr'eowcs-ss, although I never heard them say it. No serious, don't you think that in a few years some mathematic will come up with a way to calculate which primes are mersenne primes? I mean without the need to test all primes. And what will happen if he hears about all those thousands of suckers who spent lots of computers and power searching for them? Floris. Unsubscribe list info -- http://www.scruz.net/~luke/signup.htm
