Mersenne: errors
Hi, I appear to be getting error messages of 'input equalling output' every 4 or so days... O.K. its only a Cyrix 333...does this invalidate results? Should I switch to SETI? :) Regards, Ian (U.K.) BTW it took me 9 months to do 9763841 LL!!! _ Unsubscribe list info -- http://www.scruz.net/~luke/signup.htm Mersenne Prime FAQ -- http://www.tasam.com/~lrwiman/FAQ-mers
Mersenne: time and credit...
Well. been doing an LL on 9xx since erJuly last year... on a cyrix333 with Win 98 Must admit...I'll probably be looking at factorising in future...yawneven if I don't get the kudos... Ian... double checking has no cache value...lol... _ Unsubscribe list info -- http://www.scruz.net/~luke/signup.htm Mersenne Prime FAQ -- http://www.tasam.com/~lrwiman/FAQ-mers
Mersenne: Fibonacci series..
Since the list is quiet... Does a Fibonnacci series contain a finite or an infinite number of primes? From what I understand.. In a gen.F sequence if the first two numbers are divisible by a prime all its numbers are divisible by the same prime, if the first two numbers are co-prime is there a generalised sequence that contains NO PRIMES Ian McLoughlin, Chematek U.K. Tel/Fax : +44(0)1904 679906 Mobile : +44(0)7801 823421 Website: www.chematekuk.co.uk _ Unsubscribe list info -- http://www.scruz.net/~luke/signup.htm Mersenne Prime FAQ -- http://www.tasam.com/~lrwiman/FAQ-mers
Mersenne: prime 95 version 19
Hi, O.K. I am sad and run the program on a cyrix 333and before you all tell me I should only do trial factoringand not hold up the general 'Je ne se quoi'...the new version is a behemoth into allocating weird new computer i.d s and making it very user unfriendly to those that are not 'au fait' with the systemI gain the impression from most listees that they have at least a post doctorate in math, and those that know anything about us poor mortals running Windows...well we are not worth knowing. p.s ...You can memorise the pi fractionals ...add infinitum...surely...since this is a fractional series? i.e. + fract..-fract..+ fractif you know them ok I think cyclic numbers are more intersting...perhaps? Any thoughts. Anybody out their write could integer stuff? Sorry... Must get back to Seti... Mersenne: Dominoes
A closed set of dominoestake any number out from a set of double 6 type (28 set)and join them end to endo.k... I'll go for ...er 2.3...what are yu left with digit wise on each end? O.K. Mersenne: problem with prme95 - spl file
Sorry, Need help having tried to overwrite version 18 with 19-on an LL test(Win98).Have All the files and managed to run the test from my last save file pxxx -Also have q xxx It initially restarted it.from scratch...irksome...and downloaded about 10 factorization exponents, when I just wanted to update and continue..my initial LL test .I have lost (I think the spl. file )- having been resigned to dragging and dropping files into the old folder. and deleting old versions... My computer will not update progress to the primeserver...just keeps sending computer update and user info...no update on my numerical test..? Any ideas please?! Confused...spl files??? how can I create one? Mersenne: Version 19 Problems/Win 98
Hi. Not my remit really ...but having downloaded the new version and unzipped it...with all the parameters and subsidiary crap ..i.e RPC and HTTP files, It suddenly links up to the server and downloads new exponensI am sure testing LL 9xx is enough on a cyrixits my baby! Surely the EXE. file (Red) is the one...I now after grappling with shortcuts and supplanting various files blah blah cant download any work that I have managed to salvage from an exponent I have been testing for over 4 months Please can not somebody make it a bit more user friendly... No wonder people go to other more friendly collective projects... Very dissappointed at the supplementation and interface O.K. I downloaded it...Version 19 is no faster than 18, and wasted me a lot of time.. If you are looking to pull people in to this project dont assume to much knowledge as to the users, Keep It simple stupid please... There is a problem with Maths/Computer buffs...they assume to much...!! Some off us might want to contribute but wading through .txt files isnt it???!! Sorry I will have to be off to see what is in certian folders,DOS files.I think Seti might be easier.. Mersenne: Why test to (completion?)
Sorry But. Why do primality tests run to the full value of the integerFor any iteration surely if an exponent is found within the test it should be reported and the program aborted?.Not being a maths buff... Perhaps I should not be on this list... p.s. The Proth prime site was even more confusing, did not tell me what a Proth prime is, but totally confused me with Cunninghams, Sophie Primes et al...( I have heard of her, though 18/19th Century geezer...Not in the same league as Galois though I am beginning to think that maths people talk to deep or...to simply, where is the middle ? Sorry! Keep it simple stupid for us mere mortals! Mersenne: Error message in Ver.18
Hi, Still a bit green on all this ... I have seen an error message I am not familiar with (i.e. not illegal sum-out) But: SUM(INPUTS) ! = SUM (OUTPUTS), 669721378183728.3 = 1.130101692988369e +300 possible hardware failure...etc.I see no refernce to this in the Readme file (as opposed to illegal sumout above) Any enlightenment on this would be most appreciated!!?? Mersenne: version 19 and confusion
Hi, I have been reading postings with interest... I have the idea that most people posting to the list are software programmers. I am a humble chemist more into 2,4-Dihydroxybenzene or antivirals..(Acyclovir??) I tried to install the version 19.0 expecting it on Win 98 to supplant my existing files...but no joy.. I am already testing a LL exponent, and all it did was create another version and give me other exponents to test.. I must admit the interface (GUI) on this is not as good as the Seti programme...which I indulged in for one month...Correct me , but I thought I would rather use my spare cycles for something a bit more tangible than looking at a short bandwidth with fft for something that is quite frankly..well...very UNTENABLE? As a non-programmer totally illeterate(!) user of Prime 18 with a Cyrix 333MII.. 8-( I feellike left out of the equation, if you forgive the pun... Really I want to know about the difference between floating point computation and integer based calculations. I really like this number theory exercise, primarily having read the work of Andrew Wiles on proving Taniyama-Shimura conjecture (Modular forms) -Eliptic equations...coupled with Galois Representations and Hecke algebras... I must admit, I like Hilbert best of all... Perhaps somebody can write a programme for pur integer based calculations.,??? Sorry, I am rambling All the best to Primenet and subscribers. feedback much appreciated... A poor chemist...(Could hardly understand Heisenberg's uncertainty principle...8-) Regards from U.K. Ian McLoughlin, Chematek U.K. Tel/Fax : +44(0)1904 679906 Mobile : +44(0)7801 823421 Website: www.chematekuk.co.uk _ Unsubscribe list info -- http://www.scruz.net/~luke/signup.htm Mersenne Prime FAQ -- http://www.tasam.com/~lrwiman/FAQ-mers
