MC 2.3
Hi Folks, did i miss some posts or did i hallucinate when i downloaded MC 2.3 (Final :-) from the ftp-server i bookmarked? It could be real, since the date was 01/09/2000. I hope, i didn't tell a secret... Best for 2000 from germany Klaus Major This is the MetaCard mailing list. For example, is it possible to display a controller which the user can interact with to play, pause, stop, rewind, step forward/backward? Also, can I tell the dimensions of a video clip for on-screen sizing, or where and when a clip has been paused by the user? The user can't pause the clip, but you can do this from a script. You can get the dimensions of a movie, and it should play into a player the proper size if you set the lockLocation property of the player, but VfW doesn't support a visible controller, so you'd have to build your own if you need one. So I can create my own controller with pause, stop and start and use the 'formattedWidth' and 'formattedHeight' together with 'scale' to control the size of the playback frame. Can I set the 'currentTime' to effect a forward/reverse effect? Yes. Regards, Scott Thanks again. If 'timescale' isn't supported, what units is 'duration' in? Looks like milliseconds... OK, thanks So I can create my own controller with pause, stop and start and use the 'formattedWidth' and 'formattedHeight' together with 'scale' to control the size of the playback frame. Can I set the 'currentTime' to effect a forward/reverse effect? Yes. Fine. I'm not sure if this is the right way, but I copied over a current home stack to the 2.3 folder, and this worked fine in my first "play session". My first action was to play a movie in a new player object. I smiled as I got it right first time. :) Cheers Dave Cragg

MC 2.3 stacks unreadable by MC 2.2.5?
I see in the ReadMe for MC 2.3B2 that once a stack has been saved from MC 2.3, it can't be opened and used within MC 2.2.5. I am having to use MC Player 2.2.5 (Win NT) with a customer - they've only just installed it across their network ready for delivery of a series of CBT courses as MC stacks. However, I need to create cursor designs and (as recent emails on the list testify) I really need to use MC 2.3 to do it as only this version supports the necessary painting features. For the purposes of this particular client, all I really need from MC 2.3 is the painting features. Is it possible to use MC 2.3 to create a dummy cursor design stack from which I can then copy and paste properly formed cursor graphics into an MC 2.2.5 stack? You could use MetaCard 2.2.5 on Linux to create the cursors, that version *does* support painting. Re: MC 2.3 stacks unreadable by MC 2.2.5?
Seriously, couldn't I even create a cursor graphic in MC 2.3 and then copy paste it into a stack in MC 2.2.5? Have you tried saving the stack with just the image, then opening it with 2.2.5? Just tried it and it worked here. regards, Tuviah Snyder Diskotek Custom Application Development SuperCard/HyperCard Conversion at a low price
installed resources and MC 2.3
When building standalones in MC 2.3 from a stack that has 2.2 resources installed in it (e.g., ask dialog), you should delete the 2.2 resources and move the equivalent 2.3 resources into the stack before building a 2.3 standalone. My standalone had a big problem when I didn't do this! Rich Herz [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www-mae.ucsd.edu/research/herz/reactorlab
Video Format Support in MC 2.3?
I was very pleased to see that MC 2.3 supports QuickTime on Win and Mac platforms, but wondered whether this is in addition to any native format such as AVI for video and WAV for sound? Whilst I'd like to use QuickTime across platforms, some customers (such as the ones I'm working with at the moment) don't and won't have QuickTime, only pure Microsoft stuff, hence my interest in both AVI and WA formats. So, does MC 2.3 give me both QT and AVI/WAV? So, does MC 2.3 give me both QT and AVI/WAV? Yes. There are significant restrictions on what the new player control can do with the MCI API (due in turn to limitations in what the VfW (Video for Windows) player can do). But if all you want to do is play/pause/stop like you could with 2.2, you're covered even if the system doesn't have QT installed.
