hello list, i've amaturest etched my sikhote-alin, campo del cielo and henbury due to being afraid of sending off my possessions or the high cost of procesing.anyway all i get is gray and blue areas, which might be expected except for the henbury which should be straight lines. i'm to lazy to do anything about it so i'll leave well enough alone. david bye all __ Meteorite-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list
[meteorite-list] Meteorites and Books for Sale
Hello Everyone, More meteorites from my collection. Only the best specimens and all reasonably priced, at cost. Shipping is $4.00 for US; elsewhere actual shipping costs. Bensour, LL6, 78.8 grams, $256.00 Yes, I got this one a few weeks ago from Mike Farmer. I got it to compare the very fresh fusion crust with another recent but not as recent fall, Gao. I have now completed my comparison and someone can have it at my cost, $3.25/gram. Small, (less than 1 gram) micros have already started to appear on ebay, at a lot more $ per gram! Note the large triolite or metal bleb in the second image. http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/ben1.jpg http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/ben2.jpg http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/ben3.jpg http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/ben4.jpg Ghubara, 35.1 grams, $35.00 Here we have a nice slice of Ghubara with rather large and pronounced clasts. The light colored clasts contrasts quite well with the dark colored area. http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/ghub.jpg Saratov, 124 grams, $124 and 12 grams, $12.00 Someone indicated that they wanted these slices when I posted them in March, then I never heard from him. They are still for sale, at my cost of $1.00/gram. If they don't sell this time, up on ebay they go a slightly higher prices (to cover ebay fees). http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/sar1.jpg http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/sar3.jpg Zag, H3-6, 57 grams, $40.00 A very nice slice with complete fusion crust along that bottom curved and straight top portions. Also shows the brecciation well. http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/zag.jpg Tatahouine, ADIO, 1.64 grams, $12.00 I recently acquired a larger piece so someone gets a great deal on this one! http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/tat.jpg Allende, CV3, 43.18 grams, 205.00 A very nice, thick slice with great CAIs and chondrules! Only $4.75/gram for this outstanding slice! http://www.branchmeteorites.com/temp/all.jpg Meteorite Books The following books are in new condition. I have an extra copy of the book Meteorite Hunter: The Search for Siberian Meteorite Craters by Roy A. Gallant. Amazon.com has this for $17.47. I will sell it for $15.00 and I will pay shipping to US residents. I highly recommend this book. Very easy to read. I like the part where Gallant refers to the meteorite pirates who search for Sikhote-Alins. They actually turned out to be geologists from the University of Moscow looking to make some extra money. For those who feel that strewn field data are unimportant, this book also points out the important information that is derived from strewn field data I also have an extra copy of The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Meteorites by O. Richard Norton. Amazon.com has it for $35.00. I will this one for $32.00 and I will pay shipping to US residents. I have a copy of Meteorites : Their Impact on Science and History by Brigitte Zanda (Editor), Monica Rotaru (Editor). Amazon.com has this one for $13.30. I have a copy for $10.00 and I will pay shipping to US residents. Finally, I have a softcover copy of Nininger's Find a Falling Star for $20.00. I got this one recently from the Jensens (thanks very much) to give to a fellow collector but someone else beat me to it (I had to find a substitute book very fast). Again, I will pay shipping to US residents. Purchase all four books and I will take off and additional 10%. [meteorite-list] Happy Birthday New Concord!
Today 142 years ago, a large meteorite fell in Ohio. It is named New Concord. It is a wonderful beautiful L6. One stone was reported to have killed a colt, I am not sure why this is so often overlooked in the kill debates. I have a beautiful fragment of this meteorite in my collection, acquired from the ASU collection. You can see it on my website at www.meteoritehunter.com I have vastly updated my website over the last few days, adding meteorites from my collection, some never seen before. Mike Farmer

Title: Re: [meteorite-list] Happy Birthday New Concord! Hi Mike and All, New Concord is a real beauty, especially for an L6. Here is a link to a photo of a New Concord slice in my collection. http://www.meteorite.com/gallery/new_concord.htm The chondrule (inclusion?) in the middle of the slice is about 6mm in diameter. I guess this chondrule escaped the geologic villain that took the life of many other chondrules that once lived in this stone. [meteorite-list] Happy Birthday New Concord!
Hi Mike Martin, New Concord certainly did not escape my awareness for meteoritic hammers (that nailed something). It is one of about 20 I offer in my Hammer Set, and one of the largest - a several gram specimen in each set. New Concord is nice, fresh, beautiful stuff, well documented, as well.unlike the ol' Nakhla Dog (bait, bait), which I also include in the set, though in a Bessey Speck sample, of course, to keep the sets affordable. While I don't sell individual specimens apart from the set, I WILL TRADE to get a hammer I don't yet have, or have only tiny bits of. Some of these guyes have really interesting pedagrees, such as Barwell, which struck not only cars and buildings, but one stone flew in a window, bounced off the floor and landed in a cup of tea! Of course, there are more common examples, such as Allende (roofs, houses patios), Holbrook (Train Station), Juancheng (through a roof into a pot on the stove!), etc. So, we don't only have dead cows, horses, cars and mailboxes, but a slew of other items, as well as a badly bruised housewife. For a TERRIFIC list of hammers throughout history, see the extensive list maintained by Walter Branch at: http://www.branchmeteorites.com/MetStruck.html In my sets, so far, at least, the hardest to get was the Sylagauga which is exceptionally well documented as hitting a woman. I have HEARD of one reputed to go through a car windshield and strike the driver in the hand, but I have NEVER seen the material offered also, I want more have only Bessey Specks of the extremely rare HH, Burnwell (Sept.4, 1990 Pike Co. KY TKW 1.504kg - Single stone fell through a porch), Canon City, Co. Bovedy, Ireland. Of course, my gratest interest lay in specimens of which I have none.and there are many listed at the site referenced above. Anyone who has any fall that hit something, which I do not have yet or of which I have only tiny amounts, I would be very interested in purchasing and/or trading. I have only about 20 different falls in my sets so far. I consider hammers to be, by far, the most interesting of all falls. I know some collectors collect ONLY falls not finds - these are the kings and queens of falls for my money. My favorites are Peekskill, mostly because I have a video tape of the magnificent fall, Valera, because of its lethality and beauty, Claxton, just appeals to the 12 year old vandal I once was, Sylacauga - because it actually hit a PERSON and, New Concord, again, for the beauty, freshness and lethality. Hi all Steve Arnold from Chicago here. I'm new to this list, but I have been collecting awhile. If anyone is interested, I have 50 grams of Esquel pallasite for sale. Pictures to follow tomorrow. I'm selling it for $24 a gram. It is in the shape of the state of Idaho. It has a nice polish to it, and the olivine crystals are awesome. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Also does anyone have back issues of Meteroite Magazine that they would like to get rid of? Of course I'll buy them from you. Let me know. STEVE ARNOLD, CHICAGO!Hi there! This is BIG STEVE. Thanks for e-mailing me, and have a great day.BIG STEVE
Re: [meteorite-list] Happy Birthday New Concord!
I seem to remember a few years ago about an insurance company commercial on TV where this guy was driving down a street and sees this big fireball streaking towards him. He`s really freaking out and by the time the fireball hits his windshield, it might weigh maybe a gram or two, and all that happens is a little crack in his windshield! You would have thought that this character would have stopped to pick it up for his insurance claim, but N! It was a cool commercial though. :) Dave - Original Message - From: Michael Blood [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Martin Horejsi [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, May 01, 2002 6:41 PM Subject: [meteorite-list] Happy Birthday New Concord! [meteorite-list] Website Update and SALE
I dont typically put much work into my website but my computer whiz brother came to stay with me and showed me how to make frames so I spent the last few days putting up meteorites for sale. Mostly they are un-named unclassified NWA material. I have well over a hundred for you to choose from. I also have a few bensour and CR2 meteorites listed and I finally cut my new E3 so that is offered for sale also. I added a few Trilobites and Dinosaur teeth to. I should also remind everybody that I have lots of ebay auctions running to. My user id is amunre. I hope to add more material to my site regularly over the next few weeks also so keep checking back. Any sales from my website today or tomorrow is subject to a 15% discount. It is late here now so likely I wont get to respond until the morning with orders. [meteorite-list] New Meteorite Website!
G'day Everyone, Just letting you know that I've put together a small meteorite website. I'll be selling a few bits and pieces from my collection as I update. I'm going to pass on the pieces at about the same price as they cost me for someone else to enjoy. I'll be quite regularly updating the site as new specimens become available. I've also decided to include a Monthly Favourite because there's a great little meteorite I've obtained several pieces of which I think is really cool. Take a look. I'll update this page every 3-4 weeks as I've got some other pieces which are great too. I think it's good to see different things you may not have seen before and share the meteorite collecting experience with others who enjoy it too. It's taken me a while to put together as only a month or two ago I knew nothing about building a website. So it's just small and simple at the moment but will grow.
