Re: [meteorite-list] 2nd comment on TUCSON AUCTION - On line catalog started (AD)
Hi all, I have received comments off list about so many entries from one source given that I have always promoted this as "The People's Auction." This is where I am at with it: I will be DELIGHTED to take quality entries form anyone and everyone. To date, this is what I have received. They are EXCELLENT and have either no minimum or very low minimums for what they are. I am delighted with them - and would LOVE to have 75 more entries from other parties. Y'all send me as much as you want of material of this quality. To date, I have ONE other entry from ONE other person. If people want this to remain true in spirit to "The People's Auction" then the people will have to send things in for listing. It IS The People's Auction - just the people are sitting on their hands Last year I had OVER HALF the "people" (non-dealers) who wanted to put stuff in the auction show up AFTER 7:15 PM - with less than fifteen minutes to go before bid calling. Of course, I turned all but the very best away. I will be more than happy to place good photos on line providing advanced advertising, etc. However, I will have a catalog of good material and if that comes from one, two or three dealers or 55 collectors, is up to the people who do or do not submit items. 7:15 on the night of the auction probably won't get in. they certainly won't be in the on line catalog. Bring 'm on! [meteorite-list] Meteorite Collecting Expensive? Not!
Hello Everyone, Just wanted to share with everyone some recent acquisitions. I love these specimens, not just because they are fine examples of meteorites, but also because they were relatively inexpensive. First up, here is one of my favorite meteorites, a 56 gram chunk (fragment) of Allende. It show wonderful CAIs, nice bulging chondrules and blebs of triolite. Unfortunately, I can't get very good closeups with my present digital camera so you will have to take my word for it - this is a stunning piece. I got it from Steve Arnold (Arkansas) for $2.88/gram. Though no documentation was included, Steve indicated that this piece was from the Elbert King collection. Take at look: http://www.branchmeteorites.com/misc/all1.jpg http://www.branchmeteorites.com/misc/all2.jpg Next, we have one of the most sculpted specimens of Campo del Cielo I have ever seen. It is VERY solid and I am sure will not simply rust away. It displays exceptionally well, looking sort of like a horse's saddle or a futuristic spaceship. The pictures really do not do it justice. Even my most jaded relatives were impressed when I showed to them at Thanksgiving a couple of weeks ago. Got this one from John Birdsell for .07/gram and it weighs 1348 grams: http://www.branchmeteorites.com/misc/camp1.jpg http://www.branchmeteorites.com/misc/camp2.jpg http://www.branchmeteorites.com/misc/camp3.jpg Finally, look at this 3380 gram monster NWA 869 I got from Dean Bessey. .10/gram and worth much more. I love the way it displays. It has nice regmaglypts and it has a natural "overhang" which is where I have placed the Allende (for now, anyway). I am having fun cleaning the caliche from the surface. It even came with real NWA sand trapped in some tight places, - aa (cleaning that as well)! Take a look: http://www.branchmeteorites.com/misc/nwa8691.jpg http://www.branchmeteorites.com/misc/nwa8692.jpg http://www.branchmeteorites.com/misc/nwa8693.jpg Many thanks to Steve, John and Dean for such great specimens. Great specimens obtained for a song. Who says meteorite collecting is expensive. Life is good, eh! (BTW, dental picks make good cleaning instruments. I have a few extra. If you need one, let me know and I will send one to you for free.) -Walter __ Meteorite-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

[meteorite-list] New H7, the first in Private hands
Hello everyone, I am announcing a very rare meteorite. It is NWA 2635. A new H7 chondrite. There are now only 5 H7's known, the other four are from Antarctica. This is a must for any type collector. Extremely rare, very nice meteorite. I have loaded it on my website, at a price that should make it fly out the door. One other dealer thought they had an H7 and listed it for sale for $200 gram, mine is $50 gram, which is a steal for something not represented in private collections before! I am awaiting more classifications, but they wont be done until after the holidays, so just in time for the Tucson show. http://www.meteoriteguy.com/information.htm Go to my website and see this rare meteorite, and get some under your Christmas tree or in your stocking. Re: [meteorite-list] French meteorite book/German books
Hi Bernd >But Martin is right with regard to Rolf W.Buehler's: Meteorite - Urmaterie aus dem interplanetaren Raum, 1988. It is the only comprehensive book on meteorites in German that can compare with O.R. Norton's books.< As for out of print books you are correct Rolf's book is excellent. I just wished the pictures were in color. I'm sure due to the cost of color though it would be a very expensive book. It is quite a long (Wide) book and would not fit on my existing book shelf so I had to by a new deeper bookcase for it. Made the book more expensive than I planned on. >F. Hi Martin You are actually quite fortunate that there are several books on general knowledge of meteorites written in German. I have several of these books in my collection including; Carion, Alain translated by Bernd Pauli 1996 Meteorite. Published by the author, Paris, France. German language 1st edition. Soft cover, 40 pp. Heinlein, Dieter 2003 Gotterboten Feuer vom Himmel. by Volkssternwarte Laupheim e. V Softcover, 25 pp. Retyi, Andreas von and Aumann, Georg 1996 Meteorite - Boten aus dem. Ellert and Richter, Hamburg, Germany, Soft cover 123 pp. Warth, Manfred and Reiff, Winfried 1992 Meteorite und Meteoritekrater. by Stuttgarter Beitrage zur Naturkunde. Softcover , 47 pp. I'm sure there are others. All are available from various sources. I can let you know who to purchase them from if you need it. Don't forget lots of other languages have even fewer available. I don't have any Italian language books in my collection as well as numerous others. I don't know of any that are specific to German meteorites by location but there are a couple of excellent web sites that cover the topic very well. Re: [meteorite-list] ** French meteorite book : forthcoming release ! **
Hello Martin, I hope everyone will enjoy my book. It was a very long work to write it (2 years). It was read by scientists and known meteorite collectors (Alain Carion / Claude Perron, MNHN Paris / Pierre Rochette, CEREGE-CNRS) so there shouldn't have any error. Also thanks to Alain Carion who made the preface. For an autographed copy, I can already announce that I'll have a table at the Ensisheim Show 2005 so everyone one can meet me and have an autographed copy there ! [meteorite-list] Mars Express Images: The Channels of Reull Valli
http://www.esa.int/export/SPECIALS/Mars_Express/SEM1EQWDE2E_0.html The channels of Reull Vallis European Space Agency Mars Express 7 December 2004 These images, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA's Mars Express spacecraft, show a region of Reull Vallis in the southern hemisphere of Mars. Map showing Reull Vallis in context The images show an area located at about latitude 42° South and longitude 102° East. The image was taken with a ground resolution of about 21 metres per pixel during Mars Express orbit 451 in May 2004. Reull Vallis is an outflow channel that extends 1500 kilometres across Promethei Terra in the direction of Hellas Basin. It is approximately 20 kilometres wide and has cut into the surrounding plain to a depth of 1800 metres. It is the major outflow channel in the region and exhibits a high degree of surface modification, suggesting a complex evolution. Reull Vallis in colour In these images, Reull Vallis extends from the east to the north-west and is connected to a tributary in the south (Teviot Vallis). Distinct parallel structures are visible in the channels, possibly caused by glacial flow of loose debris mixed with ice. Small depressions, located on the flow features, are probably caused by the sublimation of ice. Numerous impact craters, visible on the flanks of the valley, have been filled with material from these flows. Distinct flow features can be recognised within impact craters, for example, the 15-kilometre wide crater in the west (bottom) of the image. 3D anaglyph of Reull Vallis There is a clear morphological distinction between the heavily eroded south-west and the plains of the north-east, which have experienced much less erosion. While most landforms throughout the image have a rounded, softened appearance, younger structures have a distinctly sharp and raised morphology. Reull Vallis detail 1 On the southern and western edges of the colour image, large impact craters are visible. Their diameters range from 15 to 35 kilometres. These craters have heavily eroded rims and are partly filled with material. Erosion has left distinct, branched gully systems at the edge of the large crater that is located on the southern edge of the image. Perspective view of Reull Vallis, looking west Image resolution has been decreased for use on the internet. The colour images were processed using the HRSC nadir (vertical view) and three colour channels. The perspective views were calculated from the digital terrain model derived from the stereo channels. The 3D anaglyph image was created from the nadir channel and one of the stereo channels. Stereoscopic glasses are needed to view the 3D image. __ Meteorite-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

Mike Farmer - Original Message - From: "Darren Garrison" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, December 08, 2004 11:10 PM Subject: [meteorite-list] "A curious find" (related to Australian incidenton Dec. 6th) http://taree.yourguide.com.au/detail.asp?class=news&subclass=local&category=general%20news&story_id=356075&y=2004&m=12 A curious find Wednesday, 8 December 2004 "I THINK I might have a few pieces of the meteorite." An excited Dianne Slaven contacted the Times yesterday morning, after she and her sons collected some curiosities in their Wingham yard. "I remembered kicking this black rock off the path. It wasn't until I went to squash last night that I heard people talking about what had happened. "When I went home I again found the rock, and the kids found two more on the lawn." The fragments have all the telltale signs of coming from anywhere but local. They are misshapen, and leave sooty marks on your hands. The largest measures about 10cms, the smallest is about 5cm. They weren't embedded in the ground, as one would expect if they had hurtled from the sky after Monday morning's meteor 'explosion' over the Manning. Dianne and her sons admit to sleeping through the commotion which woke most Manning residents shortly after 4.15am. Yesterday, the Times had a local amateur astronomer, Peter Langdown, check the pieces the family collected. Peter told Dianne he believed the pieces could possibly be from a meteor and has recommended she get in touch with the Sydney Observatory, which will conduct tests to determine their origin. Even if they can't be authenticated, young Mitchell (10), Reece (eight) and Jai (five) will certainly have something interesting to take to 'show and tell' at Wingham Public School. __ Meteorite-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list __ Meteorite-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

Re: [meteorite-list] NWA supply slowing?
Hi Jamie, Bill, Bernhard and List, yes, I also think that most of the interesting NWA-Meteorites are outside Morocco and wait for a definite classification. I for example wait already longer than a year for some classifications of rare pieces. The more unusual the pieces are, the longer the classification lasts. Some interesting Meteorite will come onto the market again and again in future. In my experience the Moroccans hold little material back. Mostly, they immediately take everything they have on the market. After my observation there are a few signs for a near end of the nwa flood. On my last Morocco tour in Oct 2004 I have seen hardly any interesting material. The beautiful black desert chondrites also have become very rare. And the prices are partly very high. Some people in Morocco think that they are millionaires because they own a 500 g NWA869. ;-) Because of the high travelling expenses you can make probably better deals on the big mineral shows than in Marocco at the moment. But Morocco is still a very beautiful country for me. The people there are kind, tolerant and helpful mostly. And, there must be an air corridor for meteorites. Bensour, Amgala and now Benguerir - this pieces are great! Where can get you an absolutely fresh fall for $3 - $6/ gm otherwise?? Best regards, Stefan SR-Meteorite I.M.C.A. It's really refreshing to see that other nationalities are so hateful of each other among their own. It relieves a lot of stress, in my mind, that is so often directed at us poor old Americans. It kind of makes me feel genuinely international. Let the courts decide. Forget the paranoia and the Pellisons. If the world courts can't see how ignorant it is, we should all become vegetable farmers. I love my vegetable garden so I'm biased and don't care either way. [meteorite-list] Pellissons, the truth about their lies
Dear List Members, as you can read the Pellison will never assume their acts. We can give you their answers without doubts as we have their attorney statements and all the documents in hands: 1) Did you use names and parts of private mails out of context to try to convict the Judge that meteorites have a link with Al Queda ? - "Yes we did, the list of names that Bruno & Carine provide you have been involved front of the Lyon's Court as supporters of terrorism." (list still available at the end of this mail) 2) -"Yes, the next day we have been sentenced we sent two documents totaling 64 pages to all the medias, Institutions and Ministers, in these documents, false statements and letters; In this way we did try to show that scientists are corrupt and get money from NWA dealers to launder meteorites and meteorites funding." 3) Did you contact the Interior's Minister and Court des Comptes as well as Customs offices ? -"Yes, we did , we are stating (word to word) in all our documents, the whole list of rare NWA as well as people names have been transmitted." 4) did you declared in a big French's newspaper that BIN LADEN IN PERSON came to Morocco to fix the details of the meteorite business ? -"Yes, we did , do you want to read it ?" 5) what else did you do that will hurt the others in the future ? -"Well, this you will ALL discover soon, as it's a surprise we can't tell you now, surprises are always so sweet." So this is what we can tell from their written declarations. All these officials papers will be at the Inn Suites in Tucson. Pass by, have a look, make your own idea of the danger. As some of you wrote us: we all have to wake up and see the IMMENSITY of the potential negative results of the actions of the Pellissons. This is the first time in meteorites history that a threat between two parts (and we didn't begin anything as we don't mind about other's stories as far as they don't attack us) will have hard consequences for everybody. Pelisons, we already ship our material, it's in storage in Tucson, don't waste your time to send pictures and lists to Ministers and Customs. We already have been investigated in all ways even by tax people we are 100% fed up by your madness. Go back to Libya to steel other's ellipses (as you did for the German's CO3 and AEUC-P). It's not the other's fault if you never found something of interest and you have to understand that the scientists are fine with NWA specimens, it's the first time in history that so much affordable specimens are available for science, it will grow up Human Beeing's knowledge. To establish the Truth, Bruno & Carine www.meteorite.ch PS: we are leaving to Japan Tuesday so Mrss if you have anything to say do it now and not like you did three times in the past (cf last Tucson show), a knife in the back is not fair. - Original Message - From: "The Earth's Memory" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, December 08, 2004 6:29 PM Subject: [meteorite-list] Pellisson, the best of hypocrisy > Mr Pellissons, > > we finally found the way of emailing directly to the list... we don't > > hide anywhere and don't have to answer that kind of small remarks... > > > > A lot of people would like YOU to answer these questions : > > -Didn't you use names and parts of private mails to try to convict the Judge > that meteorites have a link with Al Queda ? > > -The 9 march of this year (the day you have been sentenced guilty by Lyon's > Court) > didn't you send to major medias > a 64 pages document of lies involving half of the scientists and collectors > (you must have spend a whole month to invent that !) > > -Didn't you contact the Interior's Minister and Court des Comptes as well as > Customs offices ? > > -You're stating that nothing is illegally done front of the Court, but your > attorney > > present part of mails out of context where you are 100% lying.
