[meteorite-list] For who have buy NWA 1058
Hello all Nice news, a email arrive few minutes ago from Germany: I received the thin sections yesterday. I just had a look and made some analyses. Yes, NWA 1052 and NWA 1054 appear to belong to the stewn field of NWA 1058. As I said earlier NWA 1058 has some very unusual features. At the moment further studies are done (isotope studies, bulk chemistry) to really find out, if the sample belongs to the acapulcoites or not. The sample is very interesting. You might say, it is an unusual acapulcoite-related meteorite. Now I have in total 3 acapulcoites. Few slices is on sale on Ebay now. Hello Rob and List, It's fairly consistent with what the Catalogue says. One specimen of 40 g was preserved in the Simpson collection. During a search in 1960, not in but around the crater, 207 fragments were recovered, total weight 1.1 kg. The largest weighed 57g and about half of the 1.1 kg were oxidised irons and half mesosiderite. Within the crater 280 fragments, totalling about 20 lb were collected, all of which proved to be highly oxidised mesosiderites. So your specimen may be the one wrighing 40 grams or the other one weighing 57 grams. I've linked through to some pictures below that I thought you might like to see. Congratulations! Re: [meteorite-list] nwa869
Hello all The problem for me in this meteorite is the inclusions find into, many have strange inclusions type diogenite - I have a slice where is visible a many similar Bilanga piece type material - others have big white inclusions, others black rounded or spot inclusions and etc... who analyzed this meteorite probably find problems for the classification for this inclusions, and the type change - L6, L3/4.4, etc... - this meteorite is many strange and probably is good study very well this, in the NWA 900 slice visible in the Norton Book, the inclusions is many similar to the Zagami matrix and have a probably melt, for the moment the meteorite is under study in Germany and I waith the analysis for see what is it. Regards matteo --- John Divelbiss [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Al, Your point is well taken on the source aspect of this discussion. As with any type, no matter the name or number assigned to it...there is good chance they are from the same asteroid. HED's from Vesta, etc. I just looked at the group I have and quite frankly it is not easy to say they are different materials. Even under the scope. Yet I see the reports of L4 or L5 for NWA 869, L6 for 787, now L3.4/4 for 900, and similar suspicions for 995 (not 905 that I listed in earlier message). Thin sections of each one may help...but as Dean has stated, his section may have thrown off the evaluation of his sample relative to its true petrologic type. All this makes me wonder about the process and accuracy of identifying a particular fall or find. As I understand it, the boundaries between H's and L's can be somewhat blurred when metal and iron contents are in the transition percentage levels. All the more bewildering. I'm glad I'm not assigning these things. How does one know when he or she has got it right? Personally I'm going like them all for being rocks from space. With that in mind is seems silly to argue between one fall or # versus another with mine is different than yours... when at first look they do not appear to be any different. I will however be cautious of paying too much for so called petrological type of 3's and 4's when it isn't obvious. I'll stick with do I like it or want it or not, relative to the price it is offered at ?. However there are some suspect parent bodies which have been identified by spectral matches to the asteroids and meteorites. One such match is asteroid Hebe for the H type chondrites. It is obvious from looking at Hebe's surface that it has a variation in spectra as the asteroid rotates representing the different metamorphism (classes) we see from the change in olivine to pyroxene ratio. No doubt the asteroid had a large enough impact at one time to knock it apart allowing the more differentiated classes to show up on the outside, and some of the outer part of the asteroid became buried in the interior as it reassembled into a rubble pile asteroid. It isn't uncommon for H type chondrites to have brecciation of various different classes all in one meteorite. A good example of this is Zag (H3-6) and Noblesville, Indiana an H4 chondrite with H6 clasts. Probably why we get so many of the H type chondrite material now is we are living at a time when the results of the impacts which have been migrating to us over the eons have finally made their way to fall at a constant rate. If we lived in a different time many years from now or very long ago then perhaps and most likely we would sample some other type of meteorite falls. Perhaps it wouldn't be uncommon for some rare type meteorite (to us) to fall at a regular more consistent rate. How does this tie into NWA 869. As stated earlier we don't know all of the parent bodies yet (a good reason for funding to NASA to build a craft to visit as many asteroids as we can) However there is one asteroid of about 7 km in diameter that resides in the main belt and may be related to the L type chondrites and a possible parent body though a very weak link. Asteroid 3628 Boznemcova exhibits spectral qualities to the L's and LL's. It is obviously too small to be a complete asteroid and has been suggested it is a fragment of a much larger asteroid. Perhaps this might be what is left of the NWA 869 and other L type meteorites and why we sample a steady rate of L type chondrites. Beside these parent bodies, we are fairly sure of the Vesta and HED type meteorite

From the analysis have from my pieces is exit the info is a chondrite L3/4.4 or L3.8/L6 or L3.8 with clast type L6 or black. NWA 905 ? Are there others that might match up? At times, I think NWA 787 (L6) looks like a close (differentiated) cousin to 869. Could a large enough meteor have all these petrological possibilities within different zones of the original large mass (prior to breaking up)... in theory I suppose. One piece looking like an L5 or L6, and another L3/4.4 (Matteo is this correct for yours...and which NWA # of yours is it?) Zag comes to mind being a H3-6. Obviously this mean that some chondrules are 3's and others are differentiated all the way to 6. Can you see these differences in one slice or is it different from piece to piece? Could that the same for 869 and its brothers? By the way...I have pieces (NWA's) of all the above, and I think each one is very nice material and at first glance they look about the same. Other dealers have more including some that are obviously from the same fall but sold as something different because of a belief that some samples are much better than the L5 classification that will appear in the meteoritical bulletin. No guarantees of anything unusual but I will send you a photo of the uncut specimens as they looked before I cut them so that I cant cherry pick them and decide after I cut them which ones to send you - so you would have as much a chance to get the inclusion looking things as if you cut them yourself. [meteorite-list] Probably first italian meteorite crater found
Hello all I am sorry but the email is in italian language, I have see if bablefish give to me a good translation, but nothing. If you want translate with a good iternet translator: SECINARO. Hello Yes I have down the price in the second piece, but you see is not bid and not buy now, if you go over the $100 no people buy a piece of acapulcoite, when time ago, when is exit the first big acapulcoite - NWA 725 - the price was for this meteorite is $200/gr. I have se 4 bids in the piece put on Ebay, but the price is no go over $58/gr. no good this. Probably is good for me to hold pieces of acapulcoite firm for better times, if it does not go always worse, or to sell them for who really is only interested like has made already for some pieces that have accepted the price of $200/gr. Regards Matteo If I have 5 kg. of acapulcoite I no change the price from $200/gr. to $40/gr. as many have made. Remember, this is a text only, after this the price return to $200-250/gr. In the ad copy he states that this is only an experiment and that other specimens of the same meteorite will be sold (by him) at $200 to $250 per gram. Re: [meteorite-list] Ebay prices.
Saint words.Ebay is only a zone where buy meteorites for low prices - yes few meteorites have high prices but surely no go sold or in rare case go sold - and no a zone for see the market prices. Yes, for the persons want ruin the prices, Ebay is a good site where put meteorites start $0.01 and this persons is happy if take a $1 in a piece- NWA or Ensisheim that they are -,but for the real dealers is only a zone where the meteorites go to the ruin. I buy from Ebay, but I no re-sale on ebay the piece win few days ago, I sale in the market and stop. To the maximum I sale the pieces on Ebay.it Matteo --- Michael Farmer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I must say that I have seen this coming for some years now. I was about the first meteorite dealer on ebay, that was in mid 1996 when ebay was less than one year old! There were always about 5 items of meteorites on there, ALWAYS mine with the occasional Canyon Diablo some mineral dealer would list. I used to get beyond top dollar there, then slowly the meteorite people noticed and began the flood. It went well for several more years, until about 2000, when everyone who owned a meteorite called themselves a dealer and began selling. Many people bought from me on ebay, then 4 days later I saw the same meteorite on ebay again. People tend to destroy all good things, as it mostly is with ebay now. Flooded with some many meteorites, mostly duplicates by the same people who seem to have little common since about how auctions actually work. I don't even bother looking through the auctions any more. Too many items, too many sikhote-alins, Bessy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday etc, you get the point. I use ebay like I always have, selling the lower end stuff, small pieces, to get new customers. It still works well, but the prices there are in the toilet. My website makes my money, ebay gets me customers. For those out there now who thought that by selling on ebay they would get rich, well, good luck. Now, it seems that Mr. Warren among others just keep spouting that prices on ebay reflect the market. Well, they don't know the market. Ebay is for the most part, a discount clearing house for low quality or small pieces. Not to say bad stuff, but it is my low quality stuff that goes on there, my good stuff goes on my website with prices that fit the merchandise. If you want quality you pay for it. As with all auctions, ebay has great bargains, even in meteorites, sometimes the buyer gets really lucky. It never happened until the sheer glut of meteorites on ebay was so much that there is simply too many to look through. Ebay is NOT the meteorite market, anyone who thinks so needs to get a different job, you aren't doing too well in this one.. Reports of an unsettling late-night natural light show came from all over the southern German state as well as the neighboring region of Baden-Wuerttemberg. Pilots flying into Munich airport radioed the control tower with reports of unusual lights in the sky. The German police said NASA scientists initially thought the light was caused by space junk - floating debris in the Earth's atmosphere - but later said they were still unsure. The German army reported no unusual movements on its radar. Scientists said the lights may have been the result of a meteor breaking through the Earth's atmosphere.
