[meteorite-list] Feb 9 Meteor Reports

2002-04-05 Thread Rick Nowak
remember just
saying, Hmmm? Exactly two minutes later I heard this
loud BOOM! It came
from the direction of North Orange, approx. 1/2 mile
to the north north
west of me. I knew I'd heard that sound before, and it
came to me that
as
a kid (I'm 67) I recalled hearing that identical sound
many times.
There
was no mistaking it. It was a sonic boom. That's
what I witnessed for what it's worth? ~Dick Cooper,

Hi Judy, my name is Mckenzie Trevallion. I am 7
years old. My dad
and
I saw the meteor while we were playing basketball. I
pointed it out to
him. We heard and felt the boom. We did not see it
land. It was the
size
of my basketball from our driveway. I think it is
bigger than it looked
in
the sky. It went over our neighbors house in Agawam. I
hope you can
find
it and if you can, put a picture in the internet so we
can see it. If
I
can help my phone number is 8211358. Thank you.

Dear Mckenzie Trevallion,

Thank you for the message about the meteor.

I have a question for you which I hope you can answer:
Can you tell me what direction you were facing when
you saw
the meteor go over your neighbor's house ? Can you
tell me how
high the meteor was in the sky ? The more accurate
your
estimates the more likely I will be able to locate the
general
area where the meteor went down.

Hi Judy thank you for writing back. Sorry for taking
so long to write.
My
dad had to find his compass. He says we were facing
North. He says we
think the meteor was going 30-40 degrees North West.
We think it was
1/2
mile away and 1/2 mile up in the sky.

We have a friend who saw it at the Agawam High School.
My dad wants to
ask
her where she was standing.

My Dad guesses it could have landed in Robinson State
Park. Maybe that
is
why no one saw it land.

Does this help?

Thank You.

Mckenzie.

Hi Judy the lady that I was talking about, her name is
Lory. She saw it
when she was recycling bottles with 8 friends in
Feeding Hills at a
fund
raiser. She saw it at 2:15 just like us. She said it
was directly above
her head. It looked like a flash to her. Lory said it
was very low.

We went to where Lory was standing and marked our map.
We connected the
dots between our house on Coventry Lane and Feeding
Hills Stop and
Shop.
It looks like it went to a place called Johnson Corner
or the Agawam
Country Club.

Does this help?

Thank you from Mckenzie

Hi Judy my Dad has another clue. It was not coming
down from the sky.
He
said we saw it go sideways and it was low. Lory saw it
go sideways too
and
it was very low. If it landed going so sideways it
would roll and no
one
would feel the boom.

We drove along a big mountain out there and my Dad
said maybe it was
felt
in a few states because it bumped into the mountain
that runs up and
down
for a long way.

Thank You

Mckenzie

To: 'Dr. Judith Young' [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Greetings Dr. Young,

I read your name mentioned in several newspaper
articles covering
the probable bolide of Saturday, Feb. 9th over western
Massachusetts.
While I realize that you are not an eye-witness to the
event, the
stories
indicate that you did at least hear/feel the sonic
boom associated with
the bolide's passage.

My name is Rob Matson. As an astronomer you might
have heard
of me in conjunction with manmade satellite reentry
prediction, or
other amateur satellite visual observation projects --
in particular
the prediction of glints from Iridium and other
satellites. I also do
meteorite recovery work (primarily in the Mojave
Desert), which is
my reason for contacting you.

Witness reports so far suggest that the meteor
observed/heard on
Saturday afternoon was likely to have produced a
number of meteorites
that survived atmospheric reentry. I

[meteorite-list] In answer on Weathervane

Mr Earl Young had a really great grasp on rocks. For
their to be two meteorites would be strange but if he
cut one in half you have two:)

I don't usally like posting like this. Why would I do
it? I spent alottt of time trying to recovery
meteorites. I make these posts in case a deal goes bad
or someone else is contacted in the meteorite
community for one reason or another. In short just
want credit if a meteorite is found. I have spent
since November 1 2001 540 hours on meteorites $2500.00
dollars in meteorite recovery. The weird part is I
like it and if I had $100,000 I would spend it on
recovery. Lets wait and se the verdict on Weathervane...

[meteorite-list] Weathervane Meteorite Found

2002-03-15 Thread Rick Nowak

This time while searching via the net for meteorite
recovery we found a iron meteorite-type unknown.

The owner was asked for 200 grams in return for
documenting and listing the meteorite in the
bullention. I think they will give us the grams and
have us broker it if they wish to sell.

Part of the text telling of the meteorite

The giant stone-map today is part of only one of the
five fireplaces in the Weathervane Inn. Another piece
in the fireplace is a meteorite of iron. It fell years
ago over Michigan and was first discovered by Indians.
A second meteorite decorates the Inn's signpost
outside.

[meteorite-list] How to make a Kitchen Comet -----------O

2002-03-02 Thread Rick Nowak

How to make a Kitchen Comet

You can make an accurate model of a comet nucleus
easily and inexpensively. Unfortunately it is
difficult to do neatly.
Here is what you need:

1. Five pounds of dry ice. You can get this from ice
companies or ice cream parlors. CAUTION: Dry ice is
-79 degrees C (-110 degrees F). Any more than a brief
exposure will cause 'burns. Be careful when handling
it.
2. Water: Around half a gallon in a pitcher.

3. Ammonia: A few drops or sprays of window
cleaner.

4. Dirt: Fine grained, about one handful.

5. Corn Starch or Worcester Sauce: Just a couple of
pinches or drops.

6. Trash Bags: Two large bags.

7. Large Bowl or Small Pot

8. Water Proof Gloves: The better insulated the warmer
your hands will remain.

9. Cloth Towel.

10. Paper Towels: One small roll is plenty.

11. Hammer.

12. Mixing Spoon or Stick.
These ingredients are either actual components or
handy analogous ones. The dry ice is frozen carbon
dioxide. Water, ammonia, organic (carbon based)
molecules, and silicates are all present on comet
nuclei. They have been identified through spectral
measurements of comet tails and the collection of tiny
ice particles by very high flying research aircraft.
Here is the Recipe:
Line the bowl with a trash bag. Place the other trash
bag on the floor. Pour about a pint of water into the
bow. Add the corn starch or Worcester sauce, ammonia,
and some of the dirt. Mix a bit.
Put on the cloves. Wrap the dry ice in CLOTH towel.
Place it over the trash bag on the floor. Use the
hammer to grind up the dry ice into a powder.
Gradually poor the dry ice powder into the water,
mixing as you poor. There will be lots of vapor
formed. The dry ice, water and other ingredients
should form a thickening slush. Keep stirring for a
few seconds as it thickens.
Now, using the trash bag to lift the slush away from
the sides of the bowl, use your gloved hands to pack
the slush into a ball. Keep packing and forming until
the ball solidifies as a big lump.
Peel back the trash bag. Scatter some more dirt over
the lump. Pour some of the remaining water over the
lump, turning as you do so, so that a layer of water
ice forms over the entire lump.
Observe the behavior of your miniature comet nucleus.
It can be handled without gloves if the water ice
coating is intact. If a spot feels sticky, pour water
on the spot. It hisses and pops as carbon dioxide
sublimes (goes from the solid state directly into a
gas) and forces its way through weak spots in the
water ice crust. On real nuclei this results in
slight jetting forces that can cause the nucleus to
spin, slightly alter its orbit, or spit apart (or
calve).
Note: Get about three or four pound of dry ice for
each nucleus you plan to make. You can purchase it
the afternoon or evening prior to the demonstration
and store it in a freezer or ice chest. Place an inch
or so of newspaper below the cry ice to prevent
cracking to the surface on which it rests. Try the
demonstration first to an idea of the correct amounts
of water to use.
It's fun, it's a mess, and it's one of the most
memorable and scientifically accurate demonstrations
in astronomy!

[meteorite-list] A NEW METEORITE DISCOVERY !!!!

2002-02-23 Thread Rick Nowak

The Midnight Meteorite- This is a 19 TON unclassified
not catalogued meteorite!!! Would this be the largest
meteorite in North America??? I thought the largest in
America was found in Nebraska at 2,360 pounds. If so
let me know.IMS contacted the city major of Lynchburg
and asked for 246 grams of the meteorite for testing
and classification. We came upon this meteorite while
conducting meteorite recovery efforts via the
internet. Here is the write up. Pictures of the dig
and the meteorite itself can be seen at the url at the
bottom. Check out the world’s only zero gravity
cavern-wow!!

The Midnight Meteorite
It came from out of nowhere on the night of June 12,
1886, missing the newly-dedicated Court House by only
fifty yards, landing in an adjacent vacant lot. The
violent impact woke up the whole town, and left a
crater approximately 25 feet deep. In the weeks that
followed, the 19-ton meteorite was excavated (see
photo, left) and moved to its current location on the
East bank of the James River at the foot of Ninth
Street. In 1912, The Daughters of the American
Revolution attached a plaque to the heavenly body,
marking the site of John Lynch's Ferry and Lynchburg's
first house.

[meteorite-list] Meteor 2/9/02 Seismic Reports

2002-02-18 Thread Rick Nowak

IMS has been granted the right to do press release
thru the AP. We are going to use them in tracking down
the Meteor of 2/9/02. Reports are coming in from the
New England Seismic Network. So far only one station
has reported with no jumps on the seismic record. In
the future if anymore meteors show up we will use the
media to obtain flight reports. Plot the end point and
conatct the nearest newspaers to encourage people to
come forward with meteorites. This is so low cost yet
a method that Nininger was not able to use.

[meteorite-list] Mongolia -Gobi Desert

2002-02-18 Thread Rick Nowak

One of the great deserts and semidesert regions of
the world, the Gobi stretches across Central Asia over
large areas of Mongolia and China. It occupies an arc
of land 1,000 mi (1,609 km) long and 300-600 mi
(500-1,000 km) wide, with an estimated area of 500,000
sq mi (1,300,000 sq km). Since NWA and Oman are being
hit hard for meteorites I contacted the US Embassy in
Mongolia who will pursue their avenues to see if
meteorites can be bought and exported from Mongolia.
Let's see what turns up...

[meteorite-list] Is this a meteorite????

2002-02-18 Thread Rick Nowak

This was found in Wyandot County Ohio in May of 2001
and was sent to me by a John Ward.
The stone in question has NO magnet attraction. Due to
it’s oriented shape color and texture of other
meteorites I have seen I did not want to declare this
not a meteorite when in fact it could well be. Each
side of this stone is very smooth including the front
that has a nipple then a ring around the base of the
nipple.Their are no sharp cuts etc. The stone is no
bigger than a quarter yet weighs more than it should
for it’s size. He found the stone buried with ¾ of
it’s mass in the ground and just the end sticking out.
The problem is if I break this thing up I would
destroy it’s unique beauty. Since their would be no
metal inside a nickel test would be inclusive. If
anyone has any idea what this could be or where it can
be sent for testing let me know.Image avaible at

[meteorite-list] Sacrifice

2002-02-16 Thread Rick Nowak

Steve

Yes stating the prices created media attention. I was
told that newspapers charge $50,000 dollars for a full
page ad. Image that I had about two full pages and
about 100,000 people who read all my articles. The
Cleveland Plain Dealer alone has 300,000 readers.
Purdue University was flooded with calls by people who
thought they had a meteorite and Purdue is checking
out a few.I was flooded with emails and calls. Purdue
was very happy. By stating the prices ( the guy I work
for owns $10,000 in posters. He did the Farrah Facwett
poster. Anyway he told me that he would sell the
posters for 1 million. I thought he is crazy. Then I
realized he is a salesman and thats his opinion He
generated sales over $120,000,000 million dollars from
that poster.) I feel I created more people who will
want to become collectors thus driving up the demand
etc. I had nothing for X mass and felt the Lord lead
me to this. It was the best X mass I have ever had:)
We will recover Plymouth because it comes down to
making a great sacrifice. The landowners told me at
most some one only came back 3 times to search for
Plymouth on 70 acres. Later at the end of this month
after checking out a certain rumor to see if it is
true or not. I will move to Plymouth and look over
every inch of that property. I will survey it into 50
by 50 blocks and will have to go thru about 1,500
squares. No one wrote a book on how to do meteorites.
I read in Nininger's book how one was put down a well.
So I'm pursuing this too. Tons of people wrote saying
you can't do that. They meant that THEY can't do it.
I will not lie steal or cheat but I will use
everything else to win...The rich people
understand this stuff. They know that your THINKING a
minds et emotions creates wealth and poverty

As for light traveling 3/8 of inch this list has a lot
of people on it that deal with this stuff. I need to
know this for another meteorite project:)

I t does bother me your bummed out and have to hunt
meteorites in Indiana and that I made it harder for
the rest...

The following email

 I would offer the

a bright girl but
quite lonely. No one her own age to play with. She
comes to our place

[meteorite-list] Telescope for Meteorite

2002-02-02 Thread Rick Nowak

I have a Orbitor 200 Telescope 525 x Magnification. I
used it one time to check out the moon. I do not want
to get into this branch of astromony. The scope is in
it's original box used by still a mint. The cost for
it was $100.00 and it will cost me about $10.00
dollars to ship. If anyone has a uncut meteorite they
would like to trade for let me know. Also a Shikote
meteorite I would considered. Otherwise I will just
sell it on E bay.

[meteorite-list] mETEORITE RECOVERY PROJECT

2002-02-02 Thread Rick Nowak

METEORITE RECOVERY PROJECT

HARVEY NININGER CAME TO THE CONCULSION THAT THERE IS
ONE METEORITE PER SQUARE MILE. WORK DONE BY THE METEOR
OBSERVATION AND RECOVERY PROJECT SHOWED THAT ABOUT
23,930 METEORITES RANGING IN SIZE FROM 4 OUNCES TO 20
POUNDS LAND SOMEWHERE ON EARTH EVERY YEAR. OF THESE ¾
ARE LOST IN THE OCEANS, LEAVING ABOUT 7,500 OVER THE
ENTIRE EARTH’S LAND AREA. THIS WORKS OUT TO ONE
METEORITE FOR EVERY 10,000 SQUARE MILES PER YEAR. PAGE
307 ROCKS FROM SPACE 0.RICHARD NORTON.

OHIO HAS 40,953 SQUARE MILES 640 ACRES EQUALS ONE
SQUARE MILE. 640 X 40,953 EQUALS 26,209,920 ACRES IN
OHIO. IN NININGER’S OPINION THAT IS 40,942 METEORITES
MINUS THE 11 RECOVERED METEORITES IN OHIO. MORP
FIGURES WOULD BE 24,565METEORITES IN 6000 THOUSAND
YEARS- I’AM PRO CREATION. THAT WORKS OUT TO ONE
METEORITE FOR EVERY 1.6 MILE.

ARE PROJECT IS TO DO 100,000 ACRES. IF THERE IS A
SIZABLE METEORITE PEOPLE WILL RECALL THE ROCK. IF IS
NOT SIZABLE IT WILL NOT RING A BELL. WHEN HUNTING
METEORITES DOOR TO DOOR I JUST SHOW PEOPLE PICTURES OF
METEORITES. BASICALLY GIVING THEM A FAST EDUCATION IN

PEOPLE WHERE NOT HOME.

[meteorite-list] Meteorites and Creation

2002-02-02 Thread Rick Nowak

Meteorites you say are older then the Earth and
billions of years old

When God created a rock he created age with the rock
yet it was only 1 second old

When God created Adam and Eve they where around 25 yet
they where only 1 second old.

The Holy Grail of meteorites would be the one that
brought life to this planet. No that will never happen
read the book of Genesis instead.

I am not here to force religion down anyone. Besides I
hate religion rather a reltionship with God is what
it's about. I'am Educated in Creation/Evolution and I
thought I would share a creationist
viewpoint.

2002-02-02 Thread Rick Nowak

Back up statements with proof and facts-The Bible.
Their are about billion people who do not believe in
the Evolution Religion the manifesto of the
commmunists. When you say a meteorite is 8 billion
years old we do not except it. Alot of people think a
meteorite started life on Earth. We do not accept it.
Alot of people see the universe as madness rather it
is a grand design with laws done by a Creator. God
created the heavens and their glory that means
meteorites to. Everytime I see one I think of him.
Keith is upset at me? Why don't you get upset over
drug dealers rapists and child abusers instead.

[meteorite-list] The Holy Grail Meteorite

2002-02-02 Thread Rick Nowak

I recall Robert Haag would give away his whole
meteorite collection to own the Holy Grail Meteorite
I also recall him stating his collection was worth $25
million. The Holy Grail Meteorite is the one that
would have life on it. Out of all the meteorites
NASA's wanbe martian rock came the closet. I also
think it was a circus stunt to get the public on the
idea of going to Mars. Yet their is no life on any
meteorites. Their never will be but if you like I will
get Mohhamed going on this idea...

Steve

Thank you very much for your letter. Where allowed to
make mistakes and we all should have a place for
understanding and forgivness. And when a person goes
out of their way like you have you can only admire
them more. Steve if you had such reseacrh on Plymouth
my goodness some type type of compesation would need
to be given to you. Have you ever heard of the
Chesapeake the billion dollar gold treasure ship?
The research was so good that they literally dropped
the anchor on the ship the first day looking for it.
Thousands of hours and millions of dollars were saved
all due to research. I would like to talk to my
associate and see what we can offer you in return for
your research. Sometimes thou all the research in the
world can be futile and just plain back breaking foot
by foot work needs to be done.

[meteorite-list] News Release Arizona

2002-01-25 Thread Rick Nowak

NEWS RELEASE ARIZONA UNKNOWN TO GENERAL PUBLIC.
I sent this out to 5 Arizona Newspapers. Maybe
 someone
in the community would like to take advantage of
 this
before the general public does. Will the papers
 print?
 I can't say but

 NEWS RELEASE

 Dear Editor,

Meteorites are worth anywhere from % cents a gram to
thousands of dollars per gram. Enclosed is
 information
that will make a great story and lead to the
 possible
recovery of a lost meteorite. Worth thousands upon
 thousands of dollars.

From Find A Falling Star Harvey Nininger page 127

There were so many tantalizing reports, and one of
 the
most intriguing and convincing was a tale told to me
in Prescott Arizona about 1940. I had gone into a
 bar
on one of my customary tours of community hangouts
seeking likely individuals with likely stories. I
 laid
a nickel-iron meteorite on the bar beside a man who
was drinking a bottle of beer. He looked it over
carefully. Are they worth anything? I told him
 they
were. He stood, looking past me for a moment, as if
gathering details out of his memory. then he pointed
to the cigarer vending machine. I found one as big
as
that machine one time, but it's been fifteen years
ago. He stroked the little specimen before him on
 the
counter. It was iron just like that, and had dents
 in
it just like that, and when I hit it with my hammer
 it
sounded just like an anvil. I know it was the very
same thing. He had been a surveyor at the time and
was running a line for the government. He told me
 what
line it was. They came to a ravine they couldn't
 cross
and he had gone south about a quarter mile to where
 it
could be negotiated-and there in the ditch was this
great hunk of iron. Neither he nor I had the time or
money to make a ten day trip to the spot at the
 time,
and I never was able to contact him again. Somehow I
lost the notes I scribbled down, including the man's
name. I had fully intended to follow up this lead,
having him guide me to the spot. The territory in
which he was working is seldom visited by anyone
except deer hunters, and it may be a hundred years
before another man see that great iron-if it really
exists. Of all the hundred of reports I investigated
in my years of meteorite hunting, more than a
 hundred
yielded meteorites, and the other hundreds were dud.
Few of the productive tales were more convincing
 than
this man's reports. It is my believe he had found
 Arizona's finest meteorite.

 CONCLUSIONS

The line was a Government line not a state line. the
surveyor was working for the Government.

The line must be very long. Needed 1o days 1 day
driving 2 days walking line 6 days pulling out
meteorite and 1 day going home.

Nininger did not recall he would have to deal with
 an
Indian council. Public hunting was allowed in the
area. Do the Indians allow the general public to
 hunt
 their land?

Go to www.arizonaroads.com/maps/

and look at the 1927 Arizona highway map. The only
Government lines arew Indian reservations and the
Grand canyon. The surveyor said 16 years ago 1940
 minus 15 equals 1925

FOCUS should be on the North line of the Grand
 Canyon
running East and West during the year of 1925 and
 not
 the modern day lines

Best of success to all Rick

[meteorite-list] THE TRUTH ON PLYMOUTH

2002-01-23 Thread Rick Nowak

Steve Sachs You must have me mixed up with some other
guy.

As for Plymouth I used Bill Peck's search engine
entered the word lost and came up with Plymouth.Yale
was holding the research.

Then I emailed my girlfriend at Yale which got me the
info for free. In return I own her a date:)

Notice it was a few days before X Mass said its time
for a presant.

Contacted the newspapers. Showed them a overpriced
meteorite price guide. Created one heck of a media hit
in Indiana and back here in Ohio.

Just think you have to have $50,000 to buy just one
full sheet of the newspaper. They are giving it away
like it's going out of style

My phone and email is off the wall. I have so many
leads So I have kept off the list for now

Very soon I'am going public on the 300lb Springwater
Meteorite and their are 3 more meteorites going public
on. Hold on Dorthy Kansas is going bye
bye..

I wanted to thank are Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ:

[meteorite-list] NEWS RELEASE

2002-01-23 Thread Rick Nowak

NEWS RELEASE SENT OUT TO MAJOR CANADIAN NEWSPAPERS
UNKNOWN TO GENERAL PUBLIC

IMS International Meteorite Society Chippewa Lake
Ohio-

Famous meteorite hunter Harvey Nininger during the
summer of 1931 wrote a meteorite news story for the
Canadian Saskatoon Star. He stated farmers could have
easily hauled meteorites to their rock piles. He
explained how to recognize meteorites, stressed the
importance of recovery, and how he was offering a cash
reward. Later a farmer by the name of Ward contacted
Mr. Nininger and sent him about 200 pounds of
meteorites in return receiving a check. In the 1931
correspondence with Mr. Ward he told Mr. Nininger of
“the big one that got away.” Before he learned the
true value of the dark rocks he had thrown away the
largest one he ever found. “We were filling up a well
about seventy or eighty feet deep” he related. “I was
hauling rocks to fill it up. And this particular rock
was so heavy we used a team to pull it up onto the
stone-boat, and then when I got to the well it was all
I could do to dump it. I tore my hands rolling it into
the well.” Later Nininger used a magnetometer in 1950
to find the old well and recover the meteorite. He was
meant by failure due to the technology at the time and
granite with magnetite. I was alerted to this
meteorite after reading Find A falling Star by Harvey
Nininger. Later IMS contacted the village of
Springwater and had them do a tax search for a Mr.
Ward. The current property owners where located and
the amount of $100,000 was offered upon recovery which
is pending further cash offers are in the works. IMS
contacted Martin Beech at Campion College University
of Regina (306) 359-1216. To be a part of the recovery
of this Springwater Meteorite. One dealer sells
Springwater at $50.00 dollars a gram

http://fernlea.tripod.com/sale4.html

Listed under Springwater

IMS has access to a Ground Penetration Rader which
cost $50,000.00 IMS will be able to locate the well
rather easily in a plowed over field then proceed with
recovery. IMS suspects meteorite at 300 lb.
