Hi,

After spending many years in the field I have started calling them

fell in the lake, surely it is NO WHERE near it.

[meteorite-list] Meteorite App?

2011-05-17 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi List,

Anyone else get this email or heard of this? It is NOT a form letter
as in another email he mentions my guitar playing. Looks interesting
though. I don't have an IPhone if you do, email me and I'll forward
the email with FREE code. I only have one FREE code so the first
person that wants to try it will get it and let us all know if it is
usefull.

Hi Mr Meteorite!

We just finished up an iPhone app called Meteorite Hunter and would
like to provide you with a free copy.

http://www.innerfence.com/howto/redeem-free-promo-code-for-iphone-app-from-iphone-or-itunes

Here is a brief description of the app:

Meteorite Hunter maps and displays all of the earth's known meteorite
and impact crater discoveries (non-Antarctic). Map annotations for
each event are added, and the location coordinates plus other
information is provided for each event. Simply click on an annotation
to bring up the name and exact location of each event. Click on the
detail disclosure button to bring up even more information about each
event, such as the discovery date, mass, the type of meteorite, etc.

Browse the world map and zoom in on strewn fields and impact craters
from around the world. Find the most fruitful meteorite hunting areas
near you. Add and track your own meteorite discoveries with automatic
location detection, and track your current location with respect to an
area of interest.

Due to the many thousands of known discoveries, the map annotations
are grouped until the zoom level is such that the individual locations
can be shown. Impact craters are shown with purple annotations.
Meteorite discoveries that result from a witnessed fall are shown as
green, and discoveries where the fall was not witnessed are shown as
red.

Happy hunting!

Hi Adam,

In my experiance MOV is not a typical format and most non video savy
people will have a hard time with it. MPEG is much more common and
delivers a similar low bandwidth/high quality picture.

I use AVS video converter (free online) to convert to MPEG

Cool Videos though!

[meteorite-list] Ad: Huge 60 lb Canyon Diablo and Large Portalles Valley 1/2 stone

2011-04-19 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,

I'm posting an ad for a friend - not on the met-list.

Here are two meteorites rarely seen for sale (in this size)

The first is a Huge 60 lb Canyon Diablo Meteorite
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UDmQXkJ7Dg

The second is a Large Portalles Valley 1/2 stone (1884 grams)
http://s260.photobucket.com/albums/ii35/meteoritemall/Portalles%20Valley%20Meteorite%20half%20stone/

These are worth looking at even if you are not in the market.

Email for prices, both are very resonably priced. Don't be afraid to
make an offer either. You can't hurt my feelings, and the owner is
somewhat motivated to sell!

2011-04-17 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi Tom and all,

I understand and totally agree. However, for those that are a lot less
shy than me it could be a great tool.

Here's why, if you can type, you can make a animated movie, and the
first one is free! All you do is type in the words you want your
character to say and the program does the rest.

My video took me 15 minutes to copy and paste text from my site onto
theirs. Then I selected the scene, character, and clicked finish.

check out their website here:

Hi all,

The other day I found out I was mentioned in the new book “A
Professor, a President, and a Meteor.
http://www.amazon.com/Professor-President-Meteor-American-Science/dp/1616142243

When I asked my friend Mike Bandli if he had ever heard of the book he
assured me he had, and even purchased and read it. Needless to say I
gave him a hard time for not telling me I was mentioned - I couldn't
believe he would read about me and not tell me!

In an apparent effort to redeem our friendship he sent me the following link

Thanks Mike,

the Smoky Mountain state on Wednesday evening. Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid

Tennessee. First detected 52 miles above the Arnold Air Force base near
Tullahoma, the meteor was brighter than crescent Moon and was approximately 2
feet in diameter, with a weight of 200 lbs. It was last recorded 30 miles
above the town of Woodbury, Tennessee, moving at a speed of approximately 9
miles per second (32,400 mph). Cooke continues: The NASA Meteoroid

them over, and didn't see anything spectacular.  If there are a small number
of 100g-ish stones produced, then it wouldn't show up well on radar anyways.
So, nice fireball but no Park Forest.  I'd check the local media and anyone
on the ground, but I personally wouldn't fly out for this one.

That could change once I do get to sit down with the radar data in earnest,
but I suspect Matson had a look as well.

[meteorite-list] Smallest Complete Meteorite?

2011-03-29 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,

After seeing this tiny Holbrook meteorite I found - I started
wondering. What is the smallest complete meteorite?

Here's mine
http://s260.photobucket.com/albums/ii35/meteoritemall/?action=viewcurrent=met006.jpg

This one has got to be in the running...

This tiny individual plus two more (all about the same size) combined
don't even weigh a tenth of a gram on my scale.

[meteorite-list] OK Meteor...

2011-03-26 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,

I have received many emails and calls asking if I am in Oklahoma, or
if anything has been found. Just for the record I am not in Oklahoma
and from my “intel” on the ground, nothing has been nothing found yet.

Honestly, it seems to me like nothing will be found. Not because the
talent on the ground isn't good but simply because no one is quite
sure where to look. I thank God for Marc, Rob, and Dirk and all their
hard work, but unfortunately, this one doesn't seem to have the clear
cut Doppler info like other falls we’ve chased.

As a full time meteorite hunter, I personally need more of a WOW
factor to justify spending a couple of thousand dollars that it would
cost for such a hunt.

Of course, all this could change if pieces are found and if (by
chance, luck or hard work) they are in the right area they will…..

Good luck to all on the ground, we are all pulling for you!

[meteorite-list] Congrats to Regine Peterson on her first Meteorite find!

2011-03-23 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,
I just wanted to say congratulations to list member Regine Peterson on
finding her very first meteorite in Holbrook yesterday. Regine is in
Arizona (from Germany) doing research for a meteorite related
(picture) book she is working on. She has been all over the world
researching meteorite falls and finds as well as craters and so as
part of her education Twink Monrad and I took her on a meteorite hunt.
The hunt was short (about 6 hours) but produced 12 meteorites – two
were found by Regine! Her very first was a beautiful 3 gram crusted
individual.

Re: [meteorite-list] Oman prison saga

2011-03-13 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi Mike and Robert,

This is a very interesting story. I read it and at times felt sad and
even scared for you two as well other souls still in that hell hole. I
am sorry you guys went through that and wouldn't wish that on anyone.
I don't think I would have handled it so well

May the nightmarish memories quickly fade and let you two get back to
business as usual soon.

I do have to say though that I NEVER heard anyone say they were glad
you were in jail. As far as I could tell the list was silent - so
that no more damage would be caused here - in yours and Roberts honor.

In Tucson you guys were missed and everyone seemed truly concerned
that you two were in trouble. Believe it or not Michael Blood wouldn't
even allow us to broadcast anything live that night if he thought it
could even remotely hurt you. Yes, I know what he said recently, but
he also seemed very concerned for you.

Keep up the good work - it's good to have you guys safely home!

[meteorite-list] Inexpensive Etched Muonionalusta Specimens

2011-02-22 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,

I am selling one Kilo of cut and etched Muonionalusta Meteorite
specimens at my cost - .50 per gram - plus shipping. I want to sell
the 1 kilo lot as one lot, but may break into two 500 gram lots or
four, 250 gram lots if necessary. I will not sell in anything less
than 250 gram lots. This will only happen once so first come first
served. They range in size from 3-20 grams perfect for the dealer
that likes to sell one at a time. I have sold a few on eBay and they
sell really well. Just check my completed auctions to see.

All specimens show an etched interior and typical Muonionalusta exterior.

I did not etch these but bought many in Tucson this month. If some
specimens need to be re-etched. Just mix up a batch of Nitol and etch
- no problem. If you don't know how call me and I will help.

See them here

[meteorite-list] “Where Did We Come From? NOVA Science NOW

2011-02-11 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi,

The NOVA ScienceNOW episode entitled “Where Did We Come From? “will
air on Wednesday, February 16, 2011.

Laurence Garvie, Steve Desch and Ruben Garcia will appear with Neil
Degrasse Tyson. The episode will begin with Ruben Garcia (Me) leading
the hunt for cosmic visitors. Then the cameras will follow Dr. Garvie
into his laboratory for classification and lastly Steve Desch will
explain the importance of Iron 60 - found in meteorites.

It was a cold and windy day and at times we had a hard time seeing a
few yards in front of us. The sand storm was so bad that during the
shoot that my windshield was ruined as it became pitted from the
sandblasting it took. It will be interesting to see what editing was
needed to make sense of it all.

 Hello Richard M. and List,

 Richard M. inquired:
I still haven't heard what was in the Mystery box. Write back!

The Tucson Show and Michael Blood Auction was a lot of fun... and MANY
great deals were had by the lucky high bidders, including the winner of my
Mystery Box benefitting the IMCA. Now that the auction is in the history
books, here were the seven items:

 1) NWA 2798 - L3.2 - 7.72g
 2) NWA 3143 - Diogenite - 5.4g
 3) NWA 3161 - LL3.7 - 11.2g
 4) NWA 4446 - CV3 - 11.5g
 5) NWA 4882 - Brachinite - 7.7g
 6) NWA 4930 - Martian Shergottite - .446g
 7) NWA 5480 - Olivine Diogenite - 15.3g

It was fun to hear bids going higher and higher as the items were revealed
after the hammer went down. I'll venture to say the winning bidder was VERY
 happy with his win!! ;-)

Hello List, Richard Montgomery here (goldierocks)after the thin
 section
of 5400 went for pennies (well, dollars, but relatively few) I lost the
 feed
and caught some way-over-due sleep (not as much as Bernd may have
needed)...yet, I still haven't heard what was in the Mystery box. Write
 back!  Thanks

[meteorite-list] You are all very welcome!

2011-02-06 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,

I just want to say that doing the live feed was far more work than I
or Jim had anticipated. It took at least 10 hours prep time to pull it
off (not including the actual broadcast) It was not perfect but we
tried and it was fun - but now we are exhausted ..

I don't know if we will do it again next year but all the nice emails
made it impossible to rule out! We are both grateful to be among such
appreciative people and we consider you all friends, even if we just
met!

Thanks again to Jim and Wendy Woodell for all their help! Couldn't
have done it alone.

Now off to do all the buying that I haven't had time for. I will be
home in a day or two so I will answer personal emails soon.

Hi list,

Walter you did miss something. Geoff has a new meteorite hunting
book and If you missed my review of it via the live feed let me
review. It is easy reading (especially for the new hunter) with
fantastic photos courtesy the meteorite babes (Susanne, Lisa, Leigh
Anne and others)

Also, it is priced right at $25 and fills a void.

 Hi List,

We just wanted to say what a great time we had in Tucson. It is always
exciting to see all of our friends in the meteorite community as well as
meeting new meteorite enthusiasts. We saw some great meteorites including a
huge Semychan meteorite in Marvin Kilgore's display. The Birthday Bash was a
lot of fun for everyone, even the fuzzy white cat. A special thanks to John
Blennert for giving us a wonderful insight on hunting the Gold Basin
strewnfield. If it wasn't for John I probably still wouldn't know what a
meteorite looks like! Thanks to Michael Blood for a great auction. Everyone
enjoys the auction and the camaraderie. Twink's Gold Basin cake was
delicious. Some lucky winners were able to  find a meteorite in their pieces
of cake! Ruben and the Woodell's did a terrific job with the live broadcast.
Arizona Keith and Gary Fujihara were excellent  at capturing the pictures
and getting them online for everyone. The weather started out very cold but
today it is 70 degrees at 5PM.  If any of you get a chance you should check
out Geoff Notkin's new meteorite hunting book. Another must have for your
collection. On a side note Brix took his snake avoidance training refresher
course. We used live rattlesnakes that had been muzzled (that's something to
see a muzzled rattlesnake). Within moments Brix picked up the scent of the
snake and made a hasty retreat to the car. We are glad to see he has
retained his training and remembers the smell of a rattler.

Hi,

I have hunted with Del many times and he is very good at finding space
rocks! Carbonaceous in Cali, as well as OC's in Arizona and NM. He is
hardly an amature...he is being modest.

So this does not surprise me at all as I know Robert is very cool and
always willing to share or help. Both of you Rock in my book!

it is with the houses and all. I'm not surprised though, Del's name
has been popping up over the last couple years, quite a meteorite
 hunter from what I see.

Keep it up! We will have to hunt together sometime, I'll be in Az by
Feb 8th for ~10 weeks of sunshine, meteorite hunting, and no snow
 shoveling or wood doggin'.

Subject: [meteorite-list] Full Circle With Correo

 Hi List,

I hope you will indulge me with regard to this email concerning a
 full-circle,
or pay-it-forward, moment I was so happy to be a small part of.

Back in early December, I was contacted by a self-described amateur
 weekend
meteorite hunter named Del Waterbury. He explained that he had read a
 post I
made to the List in 2002 about the Correo strewnfield, and my August,
 2007
Meteorite magazine article, Let's Go, Correo!. He said that he had
 wanted to
hunt there, but was not having much luck in finding any helpful info
 concerning
the details of the strewnfield, such as size or orientation. He very
 politely
asked me if I would mind helping him.

How could I refuse? Especially when I was in his place, 16 years ago,
 when I
contacted two veteran Correo hunters, Robert Haag and Steve Schoner,
 asking them
for help with the same questions. As they did for me, I happily shared
 anything
I knew about the site. Del graciously thanked me for my help and said
 he would
send me an email after the hunt with all the details of the result.

Well, tonight I received a very nice email from Del. I was thrilled
 to see
that he actually was successful. In only one day of hunting, he found 2
fragments of Correo! The first was a 5 grammer, and very close by, a 2
 gram
specimen. True to his word, Del sent me photos of his finds, along with
 his
appreciation for my help. That certainly made my day. And... he
 provided me the
opportunity to pay-it-forward... it being the kindness that I had
 been shown
 all those years ago.

Correo is not the same place it was 16 years ago. There were only a
 handful of
scattered house back then. A major section of the strewnfield is now
 occupied by
a small community! I had wished Del the best earlier, but deep down I
 felt the
odds were against him. But Del came thru. He went and he found!

I am very humbled and thankful to Del for sharing the excitement of
 his finds,
and for giving me the chance to come full circle with Correo. And,
 thanks to
you, Steve and Robert, for starting this whole process to begin with.

   Sincerely,
   Robert Woolard

[meteorite-list] Times for Live Feed of Auction/ Bday Bash/ Blennart Lecture

2011-02-01 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi List,

So far all of our tests (video/audio and chat) have been working fine
and we THINK we can pull this off. However, we still have not
actually attempted to broadcast from either venue (Sky Bar or VFW
hall) and so there is still the possibility that some unforeseen
problem may prevent us from succeeding. Jim Wooddell and myself will
be working most of the day Friday to try and make sure the live feed
becomes a reality.

Jim is very good at manipulating a low WIFI signal and I assure you
that if this works it will be in large part due to his knowledge.
Personally, I give us real world odds of about 50/50. So if this
works please thank Jim. If notwell, we tried.

Below is where the LIVE FEED may be seen.
http://www.mrmeteorite.com/livevideofeed.htm

Times for Live Steam: (Yes, the times in my last email post were NOT correct)

12th Annual Birthday Bash Presented by The Meteorite Men Geoff

[meteorite-list] Attention Tucson Vendors

2011-01-31 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi,

I am looking for any vendor in Tucson that wouldn't mind allowing us
to test out the live feed sometime Friday or Saturday before the
Birthday Bash/ Nininger Awards. It would be nice to have all the
kinks worked out before showtime on Saturday Night or the Blood
Auction on Sunday. We would just set up a camera (with or without
sound) and allow people to see a live feed of the goings on outside
the room. Obviously an Internet connection and power is all we would
require.

Anyone interested?

P.S. Here is a thought that could possibly raise money for the IMCA.
It seems that we had hundreds of viewers during the first tests last
week. Therefore I am also expecting hundreds of viewers during the
actual Auction and party. Of course, these viewers may stay watching
for a long period of time. Maybe we could charge a small fee for any
dealer to have a link (from my Meteorite TV Live link page) to their
website/ ebay auctions/ magazine subscription...etc. Any money raised
could benefit the IMCA.

Any thoughts?

2011-01-26 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi Bernd and all,

Yes, good point. Both the Magazine and Newspaper are fictional items
made especially for the movie.

However, like the Canyon Diablo there was ONLY ONE newspaper made, so
obviously both the paper and meteorite are prominently featured in the
film.

The Magazine was printed with full permission of the editors of
Meteorite Mag and were 6 made (Basically a cover over another Mag -
for show only) . This means that I can't guarantee - because I don't
know - which one will end up making the cut in the movie. Although I
am told by the director that one will definitely appear on film.

Thanks

Ruben

So he is pounding on my door.  I open it.

 I say No.

Well, do you know who this Mr. Meteorite guy is?, he asks in excitement.

I start to laugh and say, Oh, that network!  Yeah, I am working on it, go

[meteorite-list] MTV Meteorite Television - TEST - LIVE FEED

2011-01-23 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,

For the next hour or so I will be testing a live MTV Meteorite
Television feed. I want to work out as many kinks as possible before
the Tucson Birthday Bash and Auction with Special lecture from John
Blennart.

Thanks to Jim for thinking of the MTV idea!.

As it turns out there are a few ways to view this feed.

1. Click here to see Hopper in my back yard now on my site.
http://www.mr-meteorite.net/livevideofeed.htm

2. Go to http://www.ustream.tv/ and search for me MrMeteorite
This may be a better choice as there will be live chat on this site
now and everytime the feed is run.

There should be a streaming video and smooth jazz coming from the feed
if all is working.

Comments welcome but keep in mind this is by no means perfect (picture
may be jumpy, or freeze. occasionally) I will try to correct, but at
this late stage in the game we get what we get.

Here goes!

2011-01-22 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,

I just sent Michael Blood the confirmation that I was able to test a
live feed with Eric (MeteoritesUSA) watching from California and it
works fine!

However, I only tested using my laptop camera and a cheap mic (not my
Hi-Def Canon and expensive mic) but Eric said it looked and sounded good.

So worst case scenario we can do that. I do however want to ultimately
use my good camera and mic. (Still working on it!)

Long story short I will be broadcasting Live from the Auction and
possibly the Birthday Bash! assuming all parties agree and there
is high speed Internet at each place!

Once all involved are in agreement I will post how to watch each live
feed during the show!

Who knows, maybe we can do a live feed from a room or two also..

Re: [meteorite-list] LIVE video feed of the auction

2011-01-22 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi,

Eric, I was using WiFi when you viewed the live feed, so if the
strength is sufficient it will work. However, a direct connection is
better no doubt. We will wait to get confirmation from Mike about
internet at the hall and take it from there. If there is none I will
try to somehow get a wireless broadband connection. We are too close
to fail now!

On 1/22/11, Meteorites USA e...@meteoritesusa.com wrote:
Ruben, a Broadband connection through Verizon Wireless, or another
carrier will work. There might be some lag, but the speeds are fast
enough to stream low resolution audio/video. Bandwidth or data charges
might apply depending on carriers. WiFi of course would be good but
might not be reliable for streaming video, depends again on the strength
of signal and speed of the connection. A direct connection to a 10MBS
(or faster) land line broadband connection is ideal.

2011-01-10 Thread Ruben Garcia
Thanks for mentioning this Bob!

Believe it or not, this was Pauls very first find by sight alone. It
was kinda funny how it happened

I had just met him (and friend Mike Morgan) at Red Lake intending to
show them how to find meteorites by sight alone. After just a few
minutes of searching Paul walked over with this little beauty and
said, Ruben, would you look at this, I doubt it is a meteorite.

I replied, You have got to be kidding!

Paul misinterpreted what I said and assumed that he was somehow being
ridiculous with his first attempt. Feeling frustated, he quickly
snatched it from my hand and drop kicked it as far as he could.

I screamed, NO PAUL, It's a meteorite!

After, retreaving the stone he was very happy, and now to have it
classified I'm sure he it doubly so!

Congrats, to Larry Atkins too! (I had nothing to do with his find, He
is very good!)

2010-12-21 Thread Ruben Garcia
Mike,

I shipped a package to Gary Fujihara in Hawaii under the exact same
circumstances - It was very late (about 3 weeks) I went to the post
office and talked to someone there that gave me a number to call. I
called and also gave it to Gary and he called too. Somehow they WERE
able to track and find the package. I don't have that number anymore
but maybe Gary still does. They were very good at finding it! Even
called every few days to let me know what was going on.

2010-12-15 Thread Ruben Garcia
Thanks Larry!

I think my ratio of ordinary chondrite meteorites to rare one's is
pretty bad. I have exactly 1 rare meteorite (My new meso) to many,
many OC finds. UofA just finished classifying 4-5 of my finds in
addition to the mesosiderite. They were just a few (out of over a
hundred) that I have found that I thought had the BEST chance of being
special or rarethey weren't!

Truthfully, both Sonny (CM1 and R) and Marvin Kilgore (3-4 rare ones)
have much better records.

However, I am not upset and am glad to have finally found an
achondrite in the USA!

 Great find Arlene!
You had 2 great guides (lets not forget Brix!) but you are still the one
who found the newest Nevada meteorite.

 And,
 I have the newest Arizonian.
No, I was not in Arizona, and I really don't hunt, but this one was
actually found by Dr. Laurence Garvie from ASU. So yes, of course, it has
 alredy
been classified, and it is an L6, and it will soon show up on the Met.
Database under the name of Chandler. Very nice crusted smallish stone,
 only 305g.
 Thank you Laurence.

And, Guys, if the scientists are now doing their own hunting, you have

[meteorite-list] Rare Arizona Meteorite Find

2010-12-09 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,

The classification of my rare Arizona Meteorite find has just been
completed. Many will remember that a year ago we had fun guessing as
to what it could be. Well, now we know. If memory serves correct, I
think only Adam Hupe was right.

Check it out here:

Great job McCartney!

This is what I like to see - A list member that is doing something of
benefit to the meteorite community - very Tom Phillips like. Did I
mention what a shame it is that Tom is gone?

Anyway, if you haven't seen McCartneys' video you may be shocked to
see how very good he is on camera. His video picks up on where mine
leaves off - very informative stuff!

could redirect the submitters to. Hopefully, the video will convince 3/4

 dashing their $1,000,000 hope.

Even if we can filter out 50% of the submitters, the community is way

Hi John,

You are right- McCartney did an awesome job - he has got me on my
toes! However, if you look closely you will see he actually attached
it to my How to I.D. a meteorite video. It was one of the first
videos I ever posted (3 years ago) It now has nearly 120,000 views!

I guess I should say thanks to everyone for viewing my videos - over
and over. This list and others have made - and kept - my channel on
youtube the most popular meteorite related channel ever - With over
600,000 views and over 500 subscribers total!

Special thanks to Geoff and Steve for such a great TV show as I'm sure
it has also helped. It seems my youtube channel is usually one of the
first places people go after the episode is over.
In fact, I just recently met a guy that after watching me on the

Thanks Greg,

However, it wasn't Sonny that made this latest exciting Arizona find!
It is a guy that literally watched Meteorite Men and then my videos

percent of good meteorite hunters have never done! And he did it
without using a metal detector...

I was shocked when I saw the photos as newbies NEVER have an actual meteorite!

I can't say anymore than this for now

Re: [meteorite-list] Tom Phillips Gallery listing on MT and Goodbye Tom

2010-11-24 Thread Ruben Garcia
I remember (years ago) when the M-list was the first place I came to
when I had a question, an idea or (in the rare occasion) an answer. I
remember when I was shocked that everyone I met in the world of
meteorites seemed helpful, friendly and intelligent.

I long for those days. Especially when I hear that yet another person
that had so much to offer was sent packing because of a few with
poison pens.

Believe it or not there was a time when people like Darryl Pitt, Jim
Kriegh, Mike Farmer, Geoff Notkin, Rob Matson were all over this
forum. They shared freely to all that would listen to their insight,
wit, and experience. It was a time when people respected those that
obviously knew more. It’s not that they knew more because they were
rocket scientists (well except for Rob, cause he is) More often than
not they were well respected because they actually did what the rest
of us only dreamed of doing.

I admit I don’t know what (specifically) happened to make Tom leave.
However, I do know that when we loose someone like him we are probably
doing something wrong!

It seems now that the inmates are running the asylum. I don’t know
how we went from delving into the science of meteorites to exploring
the myth of dowsing rods - or why a rare find by someone like Sonny
Clary is eclipsed by such rubbish. All I know is this is not fun
anymore.

Sue me, throw me overboard, or shoot me, I don’t care. If we don’t
stop this moronic, pathetic, 3rd grade style chastening of eachother
this list wont be worth the cyber paper it’s not written on!

P.S.

Thank God for the few that endure through it all: Mike (Rocks from
Space) Paul and Jim (Meteorite Times) Larry and Nancy

Let me help you find the link we have to Tom's Gallery on Meteorite-Times.
On the right side of the page is a column with groups of links. One of
these groups is called Meteorite Resources.  If you look down the list you
will see Meteorite Pictures / Collections / Museums.  If you click on this
link you will see the listing to Tom's Gallery.

 http://www.meteorite-times.com/meteorite-pictures/

 To Everyone:

It's truly sad that Tom Phillips is no longer on the m-list, nor will he be
sharing his amazing images with us anymore.  All Tom wanted to do was share
cool beautiful views of meteorites in a way that we would have never seen
 without him...

Below is an email I wrote to Tom.  I've removed the name and subject but the
 involved parties will know.

    Hi Tom,

I've been mulling this around this morning because I don't want
meteorite.com or your gallery to be caught up in any controversy...

The fact that I've been thinking about this and you're writing me
again confirms that we are both on track knowing that these statements
 will
indeed bring us into the conflict.

My decision is to just present your wonderful images without the
controversy.  I'm much to busy to be involved in WWIII.

If *** wants statements about ^^^ included then maybe *** can
 post them.

Please let me know your thoughts...

    Paul

Tom was both used and condemned by members of this list who acted a judge,
jury and executioner.  And what was Tom guilty of?  Tom was guilty of being
non-political and having the insane notion that we would be interested in
seeing images of meteorites with questions.

On this Thanksgiving maybe we should all reflect back on all the joy and
wonder Tom's images brought us.  Thank you Tom for the thousands of hours
you spent at eyepiece to bring us those incredible sights.

Maybe next time we can walk a few steps in other person's shoes before we
impale them with our deadly keystrokes...

 Paul

 Dave,
To answer your question without  using a back door approach to sell  my
thin section. Yes, thin sections are a very important part of the
classification process. They give the viewer the ability to optically
determine what the mineralogy is within the rock. That said, if you have a
good Scanning Electron microscope this can be done with or without a thin
section  in some cases. The microprobe is an additional tool that  tells the
Scientist what he or she is looking at as well but in a much more modern and
accurate way. Keep in mind Thin sections at one time were all we had until
the advent of the SEM Scanning Electron Microprobe.
It should be clear what Tom Phillips offers is not and never was intended
for classification purposes. He is an artistic genius of sorts and offers us
a wonderful perspective of a different World

[meteorite-list] Facebook

2010-10-20 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi all,

Just logged onto Facebook to post photos of an interview I did about
meteorite hunting (with Hopper) for Iguana Magazine - a full-color all
Spanish international magazine for Kids. Unfortunately, I was greeted
by a page that said my account had been hacked by someone in
Fayetteville, NC. I have no idea what was done but I did have many,
many friend requests by just about everyone in China! So I accepted
NONE. If for some reason your email message or friend request was
thrown out too, I apologize. You can resend it in a day or two or once
the mess is cleaned up.

2010-10-14 Thread Ruben Garcia
Nice job dude! Hey Rob, I wondered if this forum had changed format -
I was just about to post pictures of my Nixon shaped potato
chip

Maybe I will later, when that subject inevitably comes up..in the
mean time lets get back to dowsing rods!
