Dear List Members A New Year, but not a new decade, and there are so many things to look forward to - hopefully. Anyway I would like to take this opportunity to wish all list members, whoever they are and wherever they may be, believer or non-believer and very happy and prosperous New Year. I know this is a bit late, but I have only just got back from an extended period of leave and I am just beginning to clear my nearly one thousand e-mails from my inbox - mostly from the list! [meteorite-list] HAPPY NEW YEAR
List Members, Thank you all for an enlightening and educational 2005. I've learned a lot from the posts to the list and from individual responses to my queries to list members. To those of you I've been lucky enough to buy meteorites from, thank you for the opportunity to expand my collection. In wishing you all a very happy, prosperous, and peaceful 2006, I offer up this recipe for a Happy New Year (author is unknown). Take twelve whole months. Clean them thoroughly of all bitterness, hate, and jealousy. Make them just as fresh and clean as possible. Now cut each month into twenty-eight, thirty, or thirty-one different parts, but don't make up the whole batch at once. Prepare it one day at a time out of these ingredients. Mix well into each day one part of faith, one part of patience, one part of courage, and one part of work. Add to each day one part of hope, faithfulness, generosity, and kindness. Blend with one part prayer, one part meditation, and one good deed. Season the whole with a dash of good spirits, a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play, and a cup full of good humor. Pour all of this into a vessel of love. Cook thoroughly over radiant joy, garnish with a smile, and serve with quietness, unselfishness, and cheerfulness. You're bound to have a happy new year. All the best in 2006 to you all. Dave __ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

My old ISP (Internet Service Provider) switched a bunch of his internal software around and in the attempt to get my email to work, he screwed up my computer. It's almost sorted out now, but I'm changing to a new ISP (with DSL instead of dialup) but I won't get a new, new email address until after January 9th. Meanwhile, my old ISP is forwarding everything internally to the email address you should see on this email ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), but I can't post to the List because my email identity was suddenly and forceably changed by him, and the Meteorite Central Site won't let me in to change my email address because it's already changed and I am now a different person; the site doesn't recognize me as a List member any more. So, naturally my posts weren't going through, either. And, in the best twist of all, emails to Art Jones, the Meteorite List owner, get bounced back for the same reason when I tried to get him to change the email address, so I can't get through by any means I can figure out. Ain't the Internet grand? I have become a non-person. However, I could always subscribe to the List all over again, but then I would get two copies of everything, since I'm already getting one copy forwarded. And if I drop the forwarding, I wouldn't get email from anybody else. I am really unhappy with my old ISP, who is entirely disinterested in the mess he made, but, since I'm gladly dumping him, I have no leverage on that front. He doesn't care. So for now, I am officially in Lurk Mode, idly wondering how long the fukang debate and dealer bitch fight will go on... For fukang ever, I imagine. I going to wait until after January 9th when I get my new, new email address before I try to straighten it out. Sterling -- Gerald Flaherty wrote: Hey, anyone hear from Sterling Lately? [meteorite-list] Happy new year and Amguid crater
Hello list Just flew back yesterday night from Tamarasset Algeria after a 15 days trip in the Deep Sahara. We were 18 from France with 7 tuaregs in 5 Toyotas. 8 kids with us. Saw a lot of wild animals, high sand dunes, ( 1000 ft high !) and found a new way to walk to the Amguid meteorite impact crater. Spend a night there. No cosmic material there. ( So far not found, I had my Metal detector and spent 6 hours around before a cold rain began to fall with heavy wind !) I will put a panorama of the crater on line on my site when I have time. Happy new year to all and best wishes of success and new discoveries. Well, my first New Years in New Zealand was kind of cool. Fireworks from the top of the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere and my first guinness of the new years afterwards. [meteorite-list] happy new year and odds and ends
Hi list.I want to wish everyone a great and fantastic new year.I hope everyone has the kind of year that you hope to have.My wife and I just got back from galena, illinois for a news years eve bash.We had a great time. But on the way up, we went thru woodbine illinois, home of the WOODBINE meteorite.I told my wife to stop and see if I could get any info on this rare specimen from illinois. It just so happen I ran into a small time curator of a small museum there in woodbine.I asked him about the meteorite fall from 1953,and he remembers it.He was an older gentleman and we went into the museum and he should me a 52 gram very rustic looking piece of the woodbind meteorite. It looked very clean except for the small rust pits on it.He told me that it brought alot of excitement to the area back then. That really made my day.He also should me the area where the stone fell.It is know coverd up.That is a shame. Also having more good news as I got home today,I had a package waiting for me.It was my 206 gram slice of the arizona meteorite, SACRAMENTO MOUNTAINS.I traded away 3 of my pieces to get this.I decided it was not worht going after the wilamette I wanted.I'll have pics up this week on my site of this piece. Also today and tomorrow, then my meteorite sale ends,It will be 3 for 1 price.Pic any 3 you want, divide by 3 and that is what you pay. That is it, again from snowless chicago, I hope you all have a great new year. steve arnold, chicago = Steve R.Arnold, Chicago, IL, 60120 I. Not quite everyone everywhere, John. It's often easy to assume the whole world does everything like we do, but there are a multitude of cultures and belief systems to take into account. Here's a small list of countries and people who do not follow the Gregorian New Year (from wikipedia): Ethiopian New Year called Enkutatash. It is celebrated on September 11 (September 12 in leap years). The Odunde Festival is also called the "African New Year" is celebrated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States on the second Sunday of June. Cambodian New Year (Chaul Chnam Thmey) is celebrated on April 13 or April 14. Chinese New Year is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is the first day of the lunar calendar and is corrected for the solar every three years. Korean New Year, called Seollal, is the first day of the lunar calendar. Thai New Year is celebrated on April 13 or April 14 and is called Songkran in the local language. Vietnamese New Year normally falls between 20 January and 20 February. In the Gwaun Valley, Pembrokeshire, Wales the new year is celebrated on January 13, based on the Julian calendar. Hijri New Year in the Islamic culture is also known as Islamic new year is the day that marks the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year. New Year moves from year to year because the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the year in Iranian calendar. It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, falls during September or October. Hindu in Assam, Bengal, Kerala, Nepal, Orissa, Punjab and Tamil Nadu celebrate the new year when the Sun enters Aries on the Hindu calendar. This is normally on April 14 or April 15. Unlike most other calendar systems in India, the New Year's Day on the Malayalam Calendar is not based on any astronomical event. It is just the first day of the first of the twelve months on the Malayalam Calendar. The Sikh New Year is celebrated as per the Nanakshahi calendar. The epoch of this calendar is the birth of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak in 1469. New Year's Day falls annually on what is March 14 in the Gregorian Western calendar. Sinhalese New Year is celebrated in Sri Lankan culture predominantly by the Sri Lankan Sinhalese, while the Tamil New Year on the same day is celebrated by Sri Lankan Tamils. The Sinhalese New Year marks the end of harvest season, by the month of Bak (April) between April 13 and April 14. Telugu New Year (Ugadi), Kannada New Year (Yugadi) is celebrated in March (generally), April (occasionally). Globally yours, Michael in so. Cal. Hippy Nude Year! Re: [meteorite-list] happy new year and odds and ends
Steve, How does rustic, used as an adjective in this case, apply to a meteorite? The rest of your post indicates the party must have been pretty good. Showed I be concerned or am I just being ignorant?
