Re: [meteorite-list] Kosice
Hi to all, I would be interested knowing what people Think of Kosice and what they think it is worth Per gram. Re: [meteorite-list] Kosice
Michael, About 4kg recovered so far (what I have been able to glean of the web) H5 ordinary chondrite. From the few pics I have seen, very similar in appearance to Buzzard Coulee and close in classification. Most will be owned by Slovakia. Government laws say meteorites recovered in Slovakia are owned by the state. This stone should be easily worth more than Buzzard Coulee. Less material, harder to get, similar classification, recovered fall, etc.. Buzzard started at around $50/gram (small pieces still selling for more) and now is down to about $25/gram. Kosice should be twice this or more if the government has grabbed all the stuff. My Saturday morning pre coffee ramblings. Cheers! tett On 2011-05-28, at 5:50 AM, Michael Blood wrote: Hi to all, I would be interested knowing what people Think of Kosice and what they think it is worth Per gram. Thanks, Mike, This agrees with off list comments I have received. Thanks, again, Michael On 5/28/11 4:17 AM, Mike Tettenborn t...@rogers.com wrote: Sorry. Meant to say buzzard is down below $25/gram. Re: [meteorite-list] Kosice
Be careful Michael (Blood), As Mike (Tettenborn) just told you any meteorite found within Slovakia is property of the State of Slovakia, therefore any piece being offered to you was illegally obtained or exported. We don't want the reporter at NewYork Times, or any other journalist, to find out that illegal, smuggled meteorites are being bought and sold, and I don't want to have to write another rebuttal to defend the Meteorite Community. There are in fact few illegal meteorites commonly seen: Berduc from Argentina, Sulagiri from India, and Kosice from Slovakia. (Yes, there are others but not as often seen). Personally, I know that I will not have them in inventory, not worth the risk. Be careful out there!!! Anne M. [meteorite-list] Kosice oriented stone Sept 10 RFSPOD
Hello list members, Michael Johnson kindly posted a Rocks from Space photo on Sept 10 showing a beautifully oriented 34 gram Kosice stone. The meteorite exhibits roll over lipping on the trailing surface as well as a very frothy fusion crust. The original photos were not very good and I had better lighting this morning and have retaken the photos. Michael has very graciously replaced the old photos with the new ones: http://www.rocksfromspace.org/September_10_2010.html Worth a second look!
