[meteorite-list] Tatahouine - Pronounciation & MOH Hardness?

2003-03-02 Thread Jeff Kuyken

G'day List,

Hopefully someone may be able to help me out with
this one. Does anyone know where Tatahouine ranks on the MOH Hardness scale? (Or
if it has even been tested this way?)

I was also curious with it's pronounciation. Like
so many meteorite names, you ASSUME, but are you correct? ;-)

I would think:

tatar-who-eye-n

or

tatar-who-ene

Or something to that effect. Like I said;
assumption! ;-) Maybe one of the dealers out there may have been
there?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Anne, Jeff and list

It is by no accident that Luke Skywalker lives on Tatahouine.
Lucas borrowed the name from that town because they shot the Tatahouine scenes
near there. So, I would suspect that the pronounciation in the movie would be
very close to the actual pronounciation if not exact.

You are quite right Mark. That is where a lot of the exterior scenes of the Star Wars movies were filmed.
It is really a small dusty market town, but it has a very nice hotel with a swimming pool!  If you want to see a picture I took there a few years ago, go to:

As for the pronounciation, I think I will go with the simplest:
TA TA  WEEN ,   all syllables pretty much equal.

I had always mentally pronounced it like the Star Wars planet "Tatooine",
with an extra "ta" in the appropriate spot. Hmmm... wonder if George L.
knew about this fall? :-)
