Re: [meteorite-list] unclassified NWA from Munich

Hi Moser and All,

Good catch Moser! I also love this kind of chondrule conglomerate and
especially if it gives a strong attraction to a magnet and
if it is a H OC, I would rather guess for a H3...
As far as magnet attraction is concerned, did you compare to some other H / L
chondrites that you have? This could help because
sometimes L OCs can give quite a strong attraction to magnet too...
Anyway the most important fact is that it is simply gorgeous!
Well done!!!
Best wishes,

 Hi Folks,
I have just cut my firts meteorite, under the table of moroccan dealer in
Munich there were some ugly nwa for a very cheap price, the perfect material
 for cutting and polishing experiment.
I bought a very ugly and weathered speciment for 144g, about 10g is caliche
 :-)
All the pictures are about 90Kb:

 http://web.tiscali.it/francesco.moser/StoneCutted.jpg

After the cutting the interior is better than I hoped.

From the magnet I think that this could be an H and the surface let me think
 about a 3 or 4.
As you can see there are a lot of condrule.
What could be for you?? H3 H4 or L ?? (remember: it is very magnetic)
I think you will say that this is nothing special but for me is a pretty
 chondrule conglomerate :-)

If anyone are interested in a slice for cheap price e-mail me privately.

 Ciao and thanks

Re: [meteorite-list] unclassified NWA from Munich

2005-11-08 Thread Moser Francesco

I've just make an experiment.
I attack a magnet to the NWA and after to the few H and L slice that I have
in collection.
I pull the two slice and the magnet remain on the NWA, so it means that it
has more iron, isn't it??
With the SAU001 there is the most interesting behavior. Somethimes the
magnet reamain on the SAU and somethimes on the NWA.

Could we say the metal content are similar?? So the classification too??

Ciao

Bravo Francesco !
This is proof what I alvays say. Every stone must be cut not matter how ugly
it is.
In that way I find my 2 little and pretty L3 and one L3-6 chaotic breccia
and ofcourse 22kg L6 IMB that from outside looks like piece of s**, but
inside fresh rare material.
Verry rare and beautifull H/L3-4 NWA1955 from outside looks like Dean's
Munich cheap material. You will never say that this ugly shale with soo many
cracks can me soo rare and beautifull inside.

That's a beautiful piece that he's got there, and it makes me feel at least a
little hope for the
kilos of crappy looking but cheap unclassifieds that I have sitting around.
