Re: [meteorite-list] NWA 5000 Limited Edition - World's Largest Lunar[meteorite] Replica
As an artist myself, I find the curator's suggestion about what constitutes artistic originals troubling. If an artist creates, or manipulates an object in such a way that is not an identical print or reproduction and said object has an identifying element, however so slight, that makes it different from another creation that is similar, they are in fact both artistic originals. I have created hand drawn pen and ink originals in a limited edition that are nearly identical, but by virtue of the hand drawing process they are inevitable slightly different. It is impossible to make them identical...we are human after all, not machines. That's what photocopiers are for. I recently saw a fascinating install of works by Picasso at the Bellagio here in Las Vegas where a series of his original lithographs showed the evolution of a single concept from beginning to end. The were well over a dozen pieces in the series, each unique. The transition from one piece to the next was sometimes very subtle and other times dramatic, but they are all originals. Best regards to all, happy hunting, and have a great summer! You are the main reason I am moving away from the sales of meteorites. Betrayal, greed, self-delusions of grander and shameless shelf-promotion all come to mind. Like any object of great value, they tend to expose the truth and character of individuals. Sometimes the ugly side is exposed. I have always honored all contracts and kept my word. Yes, Please nobody confuse me with my brother, Adam. Do not ever think I am like that! I bailed him out on NWA 5000 in June 2013. I have represented Adam and his long time and current NWA 5000 partner, Jeff Kroschell, well before I rescued the majority of the mass from being returned to the Moroccan owners to be utterly destroyed and spread around after the hammer, not unlike Adam is doing now with his eBay sales. In any case, I want everybody to know that I have never misrepresented NWA 5000 and have nothing to do with current claims or events. My claim is that NWA 5000 is simply the best and most desirable lunar meteorite found to date which is backed up with facts on my website. NWA 5000 is indeed an exquisite lunar meteorite. However, there are bigger lunars. Kalahari 009 and NWA 10495, both exceed NWA 5000’s original mass. I’m writing now because I have been honored to curate the main mass of NWA 10495, which weighs 12.120 kg. Accuracy is important and it is impaired by exaggeration.
